The real reason for the "code giveaway"
So, while it did seem odd that you could download the game without even making an account, seemed a bit odd, but whatever. I downloaded the game, chose a server and clicked Play. Turns out, you actually do need a key to activate the game, but how this was designed was ingenious.

Think about this for a moment. How does a game developer gather metrics on a game's popularity without actually, letting anyone "play" it. Well, you do what this company did and let people download the game and then request an activation key. Then you have a "free key giveaway" in which 100's or even 1000's of keys get posted on their Discord ( not entirely sure what they were thinking, but now it all makes sense ). Oddly enough, every key was used instantly. Which means either BOTs stole all the keys OR, none of the keys were real.

Hear me out cause this is the really good part. When you download the game, they still let you choose the server before hitting the Play button and amazingly after all these keys being taken instantly, EVERY single one of their 18 servers still shows LOW population. Interesting huh? 1000's of keys given out, yet you have 18 servers with LOW population?

Sounds to me like NetEase pulled a fast one on us and all this free giveaway was just a ploy to get some metrics.

I agree, they see there are 100k+ ppl on the discord servers and drop ~2k key's, and the email key's weren't delivered on as far as ive heard. And yeah amazing with the amount of low pop. servers. seems super sus.

Yup they gathered both your data from launching the game (if you did, I didn't and I'm glad I didn't now that I think about it) and from registering for a key.. honestly, sounds so phishy.. and if they can't handle giveaways any better and more legit than this in 2023 with all the tools we have available online for free then I'm scared to think about how they coded their game :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Here's a twitch interview with a guy who is head of global operations basically saying the game won't be P2W and immediately after makes the statement that if "we" aren't happy with something in their "battle pass" which is their monthly subscription with no P2W items ordeal, to just let them know through feedback.

The whole time I'm just sitting here thinking about Black Desert Online launch in NA and EU and Kakao / Pearl Abyss made the same bold statement that their cash shop would have ZERO P2W items, despite the game being hard coded with limited inventory and everyone knows, Pay for Convenience = P2W not to mention, 2 weeks after launch, they already had under garments with +1 luck in the cash shop.

So when a game company claims their game won't be P2W and can't even keep that promise for more than 2 weeks, well, I don't hold my breath for those claims anymore, especially when a game is designed in such a way that it will definitely be P2W.

i'm not sure if there is any "pay to optimize" in once human right now, (as you see in black desert.)

i mean it is possible, that after beta, come august launch, they pull a fast one and make things super inconvenient and add the solution in the store.... but it hasn't happened yet. (though the last minute switch would remind you more of archage, not black desert...)

my personal turn off is battle passes of any kind. cosmetics, fomo, etc. i just have no interest. even if the pass was free, the tasks are extremely boring. not satisfying.

so they should really pivot away from battlepass unless they make it fun to progress through, which would be extremely rare in this industry right now.

This has nothing to do with people being salty. This company is "new" and yet they want to win GOTY in 2024. Well, you don't win GOTY with making stupid decisions.

And of course they are working overtime deleting any negative comments in the white knight threads.

Damage control at it's finest.

All the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bots in the discord servers...
Sugam Jan 1, 2024 @ 8:07am
Just don't give them any any money you do not want to give them, if its currently fun, play it. If it turns sour later, like Black Desert, leave it. There is not much real dedication to this game though I know this is an mmo, but they plan on having wipes at seasonal changes and before anyone wigs out, first just take a breath and see what its really about on release. For an example, I have one real issue with the game and if its not resolved I will walk, its that simple. Lots of other fish in the sea as they say.

And yes, bots are a problem.

It's not about money. It's about how a company handles ♥♥♥♥ and I realize they are a new company, but with NetEase guiding them, I guarantee you it will eventually go P2W.

The server population is low because people load in, run around for a bit, get bored, and log off. When I got my key, it was almost impossible to find a place to put a camp/territory. I logged in today (a week later), and nearly everything is gone, including my camp. There's barely anyone online, people aren't getting hooked. I think it's funny people are trying to buy keys for this beta. Def not worth it.
