Discord - PHONE VERIFIED?!

No, I'm not giving discord my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ phone number and having it permanently linked to it. What sort of police state discord is this? STOP.

This only crops up when the safety settings are shoved up to highest in the server settings. This is absolutely ridiculous. I won't permanently modify my account just for a single game.

Klei (Don't Starve's) ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ discord, State of Decay, 7 Days to Die, Outlast, From Soft's, Remnant's, League of Legends semi ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (riot employees on it), Genshin, Darktide, GTFO... the list goes ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on. NONE OF THEM have this setting set to highest.

While I know my words are coming off harsh, I will not have my privacy violated permanently just for the allowance of a single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ discord so I can chat with people about the state of the game as it currently is. Steam doesn't require it, Discord and Once Human certainly should not ask for it.

Join the discord with a second account and see. Maybe it didn't when you entered, but it does now.

By the way, this might be one of the questionable thing that might trigger a phone verification. Same PC, or one PC and one phone and trying to have multiple accounts coming from same local ip address...

Last resort is to contact [e-mail] and explain why and maybe they allow you in... Then trigger again. lol.

I think either the server's host set it as a requirement (Game publisher forces the setting, not Discord)

Or your ip address or recent discord activities, typically questionable, triggered their auto ♥♥♥ to force a phone verification (This is related to Discord). Typically an email verification is enough... Discord mobile app might be another story.

Either case, you just do it or don't. Otherwise, full karen mode, visit every other forums or whatever websites and whine about it but in the end... Nothing will change.

No, that's not how it works. If that second part were the case, it'd be for every discord I tried to join.

The developers have the reasonable decisions NOT to use privacy breaching tech that goes beyond anything any other platform has done.

The reason they need it is if certain IPs feel odd, it's an extra bit of security that they really need. If you and the others look up Discord class action lawsuits, you will see that a lot of the accusations are related to crimes against minors.

Not hard to google why discord is being strict with identity and enforcing channels to keep civil.

And by saving personal information, a single data breach can have the ENTIRETY OF THE US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT coming down on their ass like it did for the Sony breach.
