Is This Game Inspired By Annihilation?

I couldn't help but notice how closely this game resembles the scenario seen in the book, and film, Annihilation.

Even the aesthetics of the alien Stardust (referred to as the "Shimmer" in the book and film)are remarkably similar. And the same goes for the mutated flora and wildlife.

This has got me personally very excited for this game, and I will be very much looking forward to getting my hands on it in the future. ^^

Btw, will the main characters we play as go through any mutations of their own?
Would be pretty cool if we could customize our own mutated bodies with looks and abilities unique to each player.

Its based on Lovecraftian themes and eldritch horror.
Which a lot of things draw inspiration from.
Cosmic horror is a very god source to pull from.

Never heard of it but I'll have to check it out. I think its inspired by many things like someone mentioned The Secret World. (Really good tabletop/mmo game) the mmo version is really reallly reallllly old by now but still playable

The game loop itself reminds me of Fallout 76 while the art style reminds me of Control. The mission stories remind me of The Secret World

That's what I thought the second I heard about this game. I actually just tried looking up the idea on Google and found on Reddit a player claiming that he's just reached an island area with a "shimmer" and a lighthouse, and going, "Isn't this an Annihilation reference?". And because I was so wowed by that movie it's the reason I decided to give this game a shot. ;)
