Oh, well, you should probably play Reverie then if you've already played them all. I mean, why not at that point, you gonna just skip Reverie?
But, if you really like the look of Daybreak and its protagonist then just go straight into that. Up to you.
I'm kind of the opposite with the protagonist in Daybreak. Not very appealing compared to Rean, Lloyd or C from Reverie.
i'll make my post short and sweet, i feel like you can take away half the characters and nothing would change
pretty subpar cast, story is whatever and likes to waste your time
i gave it a 5.8/10
he can be pretty funny at times but other than that yea, he's just a dude who is there
Basically the mcu of gaming is hitting the same sorta wall that mcu or any long form media eventually hits the series needs to take a break. Falcom has been on cruise control for so many years now.
Some of those characters are from other arcs, and they lead up to this point, trails of cold steel becomes a sort of culmilation after a point of everything thats been going on in the other two arcs. In trails into reverie characters from all 3 game arcs are present. I dont know anything though about games before trails in the sky arc series, but maybe theres some kind of small nods for those too
I think i enjoyed daybreak a lot more than i did cold steel. I love Van as a maincharacter, because he didn't always to the "right" thing. This leads the story to future a lot more mature themes, which i personally enjoyed. I loved the characters and the casual banter between them. I have played over 80 hours and this has become my favourite trails game that i have played.
The story started really slow, but captivated me early, I got really invested pretty early on and wanted to keep going on. While the story might not be the absolute best in the series, you get pretty hooked! For me it felt like the story was more character driven, than one on heavy on all kinds on narratives and 15 other plot points like was the case with cold steel. I'd place the story of this game up in top 3 of the arcs. The game felt fresh thou it kinda reminded me of the original cold steel 1.
Nope. Game is still pretty easy, even on Nightmare.
There is some difficulty mod floating around you can install if you want a challenge though.
I actually really liked Daybreak 2 as well, although not as much as the first game. The fixing everything through time travel was kind of lame, but all the side stories offered a lot of insight into different characters, and I've always enjoyed the "little moments" of Trails (bonding events, talking to all the NPCs, etc.) so the fact that they went back to the beginning in the end didn't bother me too much.
Play this game or don't; play the other games first or don't. Do whatever makes you happy. There's not just one way to enjoy this series!
Estelle was a bit better back then only because the story was a bit more grounded on her and Joshua and she was realistic in her power scaling and her reactions to the world and people around her.
But Daybreak... Yume is a great example here, a lot of Trails non protagonist child characters tend to be very one note. Mischievous or very good idealized kids.
Yume is a good kid of course but her dialogue feels super real. Van is more animated and reacts much more than Rean or Lloyd did.
I think Falcom was potentially feeling fatigue with what was essentially one big build up to everything in Erebonia.
It feels like their character writing is inspired again. This is without getting into them changing the gameplay without actually scrapping the core system. I'm super impressed.
As for the sales, you're half-right. The Japanese PS5 release got very low sales due to the misfortune of releasing in the same week as Tales of Arise, but the PS4 version was the best-selling physical product of its release week.
Daybreak 2... yeah, it's got issues. But because it's so standalone you could probably skip it and still understand the story if you only play Daybreak 1 then go straight to Kai. This series has 12 games currently. They can't all be amazing. DB2's quality doesn't detract as a reason to play DB1.
