Even in Japanese they pronounce it "Muh-ree"?
I'm from Canada and this is too stupid to NOT say something!

Most Canadians say "Sue Saint Muhree" for a french named town in northern Ontario; Sault Ste. Marie(pronounced in french phonetics, properly; "soh-saunt-MUH-ree"). The name comes from the river rapids translated from french: Saint Marie Rapids(Sault is an old french word for "jumps").

Where did the Japanese voice actor/coach learn these bad english phonetics, a Canadian?

The "english phonetics"(which shouldn't be used, say it in french or translate!!!) when pronouncing the french spelling state: SALT(like fault or vault)-stee(the french word is RIGHT THERE, implying the proper language for the spelling's phonetic pronunciation)-MARE-ee, but they insist on using 1 part "making ♥♥♥♥ up"(Sault = Sue), 1 part "translate"(Ste. is french, "Saint" is not) and 1 part "really sloppy english justified by hick sounding accent"(Muh-ree).

The fact that 99% will argue this with a "no true Scotsman/anecdotal fallacy" combo("you're the one who doesn't say it properly like a Canadian, Oibyr!" and "that's JUST how they say it there, so you are wrong Oibyr!") has only helped cement my hostility towards my own entitled idiot filled country, NVM my absolute lack of patriotism in all other ways other than how we USED TO BE the worlds #1 peace keepers and protectors. Sooner or later "bad english" becomes official and this makes me angry about the stupidity our species is sprinting towards, as a whole.

In summation; I won't take any part in/buy anything that further continues the mispronunciation that I have had to deal with the VAST majorities stupidity/patroitism, over...that includes buying this game(if you couldn't figure that out).

Also, the word "English" is only capitalised for the people of England(because it's a proper name), but not the language(english and french are both lowercase e and f) and Steam wants a "E" every time, lol. Stupidity spreads just like that!

Thank you for your time, unless it's "too long, I don't have the skill or attention span to read all that", then it's; GOOD!!! I don't want to hear your opinion, anyway!. I will not reply to logical fallacy other than to explain how said fallacy was committed and may even unsub if it persists. :happymeat:

Languages should be written with a capital letter in English. Looks like you're just dumb bro.
Mary and Marie are said differently, mate

Nice fallacy example, thanx for the help!

You will "stick with what you know" because either you don't understand or refuse to try("I skipped most of this...").

It's only TL:DR commentators like you I don't care for the opinion of, but you demonstrated a logical fallacy and I needed a first assistant to get the ball rolling(JK, I didn't need an assistant, all of you don't know about fallacies/biases, obviously). :happymeat:

no, the phonetics clearly have only so many correct ways, IF you can prove me wrong; it will be by explaining the english phonetics that I fail to comprehend...that's how debate works.

Am I supposed to simply take your word for it? That's an "anecdotal fallacy", part of that "99%" I mentioned in my OP. Don't leave it like that, gimme a link to something factual. Don't be a "just becauser", lol.

it's literally like one page of a book so I could be specific, why do people whine that they have to read more than 6 paragraphs, but think they can make a vaild point to defeat it in one illogical sentence?...or ONE emoji?
(I literally do not have enough info based off of that to know where you stand, one page of a book is a very short story)

You have too little else going on in your life, I think.

If you only knew how busy my life has been lately...anyway, that's a strawman; you are misrepresenting me because you cannot provide a proper rebuttal = you argue a point I didn't make; also a genetic fallacy in it's own right(limit one per assistant, lol).

I won't be replying anymore until tomorrow night around the same time.

So take your time, learn how to "actually beat me in a debate"...anyone can do it, it only takes patience, practice and being able to then see all the irrational decisions you/everyone you know have made your whole life(<-hardest part, tbh. My own past "appeals to emotion" still haunt me).

It's too easy, it's late, I'm tired and have a lot of unhappy stuff to deal with in the morning. :steambored:

I'm not an expert on the lingular origin of names but as far as I'm aware and FWIW a lot of Atelier games tend to look at German when it comes to names.
Also I don't remember any case of "muh-ree" in the game, although I admit I didn't pay a lot of attention to it. The way the intro voice says it sounds more like "ma-ree" than "muh-ree" though. If you know a case of someone saying otherwise that I might've missed you're welcome to point it out.

That said if there's anything related to this game that tends to be weirdly pronounced it's the series very title- atelier. Though this comes more from the fandom (and some english voice actors) than the games itself.

Cool, a nice reasonable person!

"ma-ree"(?) and "muh-ree" are kinda the same mispronunciation, "mare(like a female horse)-ee" is the proper phonetics. It's the same with Mario; in italiano(no capital Steam, not a proper name) it's MAR like mars(<- that's a proper name?!?!), where in english phonetics it is MARE like Mary/Marie(lol).

"Hey, have you ever seen that movie, There's Something About Mary? Bet you didn't know
they're making a Canadian version. Yeah...It's gonna be called, There's Something About Marie."
- Wayne, Letterkenny S4E4
If you hear this he says the difference, too bad they don't elaborate into it being wrong as it just went right over people's heads. They CONSTANTLY make fun of hick accent stuff but never explain how it's wrong(they are acting a part, after all)...

..."I suggest you let that one marinate".

P.S. "Atelier" is a french word, pronounced properly; "uh-tell-yay"

Someone is unable to provide a rebuttal so I get constantly "jestered"?

Ad hominem doesn't work on you when you find out it's an admission of defeat, a way of saying "I have nothing left but put-downs"...so it "cannot" bother you when you know it means they lost and this one needs anonymity on top of that, lmao!

Do it again after I explained how it's laughably illogical...I get points for those ad homs(x2 the win per jester, lol). :happymeat:

depends on where you are where i'm from it's "Moree" but other places pronounce it "mah-ree" and some as "Mary" OP's silly Names are pronounced differently in locations

My mothers name Teresa pronounced Ter-ess-a but some places pronounce it Tur-eez-uh

"AT-el-YAY MAHR-ri" is correct, and the trailer seems to have the closest Japanese pronunciation of that!

"depends on where you are where i'm from" I'm from Ontario(where the Sue is), thanx for a "no true Scotsman" . Maybe look up the phonetic charts for yourself. Regional pronunciation does not change phonetics, it just adds an accent or direct mispronunciation, nothing more.

This guy has been wrong before about different pronunciation and he never explains the phonetics, only states "what is correct"(from his conditioned perspective, like people from the Sue). I have given a better description and when he says it is both "muh" and "mare" is wrong; they are separate languages phonetics(like "Mario"). The Japanese writers are using french words that get mispronounced in english(Atelier as well).

Thank you for all the examples of how illogical the majority are, but now there's nothing left to say that I haven't already said(I was waiting for that "depends where you live" excuse), I'll unsub now from boredom and a lack of me learning anything/improving my knowledge of etymology/phonetics.

(Thanx for more points, whoever thinks that the jesters will hurt my feelings. You have proven how dumb you are and that's NOT ad hominem when you prove it; it's fact)

ok but even with phonetics if it's pronounced muh-ree somewhere then it's muh-ree
