It's probably not worth the money.
The game loop is something like this:
1) get a quest in town or check your current quest goals
2) choose a party in town (2 additional members possible - with varying cost that decreases the more you take them along => you kind of invest in specific characters over the course of the game)
3) visit one of the gathering locations for your quest
4) fight until your inventory is full or simply pick up specific stuff you need if you're tight on a quest timer
5) return to town, craft items and rest if neccessary (probably better to consume items instead of wasting too much time)
6) buy new recipes and tools so you can take on better paying quests
7) try to experience all the events in town (a guide is probably necessary so you won't miss anything)
8) repeat all steps...
9) pass your exam to finish the game before time runs out
