Unable to start game unless engine.ini file is deleted
I recently upgraded my monitor from 2560x1080 to a 4K TV and the game will not start.
It launches, but locks up before displaying the title screen.

The only way to get it to play is to delete the engine.ini from the Steam folder. The problem there is that it launches in a windowed 1280x720 and then i have to click through ALL the resolution settings to get it to 2560x1440@120Hz (or 60Hz) - or any other resolution.

If I quit and restart - the display settings do not save and I have to set the display options again.
If I run the verify game files - then the engine.ini downloads again and I have to delete it and repeat those steps with the resolution.

It's also worth mentioning that the save games are no longer in the documents\my games\SP-SoT\save folder - they are now being stored in a folder called Onyx - but they load with no problems. There are 2 files in the save folder called Eoptions.opt and Goptions.opt - which are not text files and I'm guessing those are the files that aren't being updated with the resolution options (even though the subtitle option does stick).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello AK, thanks for posting.

Although Ubisoft would usually not recommend editing the game files in any way, as this may cause unwanted behaviour with the game, from personal experience, as the games settings allow you to match your monitor size, have you tried editing the engine.ini file in a text editor such as notepad? You may be able to change the default settings for the monitor size, so the game will launch matching your monitor size without having to select it every time you launch the game.

If you verify the game files, usually this will overwrite any changes you have made, as verifying game files intention is to usually fix corrupt or missing files, so this may undo your changes each time.

Hello Slime_Channel

Thank you for getting in touch, sorry to hear you're also having issues!

As there was never a response to Ubi-Milky's post, their raised points still apply if you're also facing trouble with the resolution.

If you could please give this a try yourself and let us know the outcome.

Thank you!

Fair enough to report that the problem no longer exists. I am now able to play with the settings in the program at 4096x2160 @120Hz (Nvidia 2070 Super). To be certain, I downloaded a fresh install of the game and I confirmed those settings and no issues.

I HATE that I can't rebind the keys, but no more issues with the video and the game is still hilarious.
