I remembered my friend getting a cracked copy of the uncensored version a month before it was supposed to be released in Australia. A great game to enjoy if you are a South Park fan. It has all the crude humor and violence's from the tv show.

The FUNNIEST game i've ever played BUT it has it's flaws...

The Stick of Truth has so much fan service and references to South Park characters and lore that make this a must play for any fan of South Park. Looking back at the first trailers it's a shame that the final product turned out to be very different which is most likely because of the change in publisher, from THQ to Ubisoft. Right from the start i could tell from the user interface which looks bland and sort of unfinished that this game had problems during development also the 30fps cap which was supposedly 60 during early trailers. Luckily, the rest of the game is much better than i expected.

The kids of South Park are playing Humans VS Elves and are at war over the Stick of Truth and you are the new kid in town that has to become friends with everybody. That's the main goal of the game, to make as many Facebook "friends" as possible to make progress, gain new perks and gain new fart attacks. While some friends are optional missables most of them are tied to the linear story which is very linear so don't expect a nonlinear open world game here, even though you are free to explore South Park and do quests in a nonlinear order. The further you progress, the crazier the story gets as you would expect from South Park and while nothing makes sense, it's all very well paced and fun which are the strongest aspects of the game. It feels like you're in a special episode of the show, however, that's also the game's weakest point.

The story has it's funny memorable moments but if you're familiar with the show it's nothing out of the ordinary, in fact, it's kinda lackluster mainly because of two reasons; There is zero character development and it's all about you, the "New Kid" but your choices don't really matter in the long run, and on top of that, your main character doesn't even talk... Which is the biggest wasted opportunity ever. The novelty of Stick of Truth is interacting with the residents of South Park but why can't i, for example, romance Princess Kenny? Why can i not choose to develop more of a bond with Mr Garrisson? My point is, after the initial 5 hours you'll notice that you are not really a part of this town because of how neutral everyone is with you, as if you don't have a personality of your own, you're just a blank insert main character to move the story forward. Out of all the RPG studios, Obsidian Entertainment should have known how to make your character feel like a part of the world that you're in like they did in Star Wars and Fallout. But what we got here is just a bland main character that just goes along with all of the abortion and poop jokes so again missed opportunity there.

The gameplay is traditional turn based RPG very similar to Paper Mario where you have to time your attacks to perform combo's, get status boosts and do more damage and just like Paper Mario you gain new companions the further you progress in the story. However, the RPG mechanics are way too basic. You have every ability or special move unlocked from the beginning and there is nothing new to gain except for story related fart attacks, weapons, armor, perks and Mana. There is no real strategy and most of the battles feel the same. By completing some sidequests you unlock special character summons like Jesus and Mr Hanky but these summons suck because you can only use them literally once in battle and then they're gone until you go back and talk to those same characters for another one time summon. The companions and enemies are more complex as some are immune to Gross, or Sleep status but the game is never too difficult overal it's a pretty accessible game. Despite all of this the gameplay is fun just because of the humor and writing and there is variety in the weapons and armor that you can equip.

The voice acting, music and characters are accurate to the show and are all top notch i especially enjoyed the companions during battles. They all have their own special moves, personality and funny lines it makes me appreciate the characters even more even though this doesn't develop their character throughout the actual story.

In conclusion the story is about what you'd expect from a South Park game but upon reviewing the early trailers it could've been better. The good thing is that the game is about 15 to 20 hours long and it's basically a South Park fan's dream come true.
