Weapon and armor upgrades
When I view weapon and armor upgrades some of the upgrades are grey some are colored. All of them are selectable. Is there any significance to the upgrades color?

It's not rarity, it's effect.

Red is burn damage, yellow is shock damage, blue is cold damage, puke green is gross-out damage, light-green is healing, etc.

Really, this should be painfully obvious by reading the descriptions.
