help!!!!!!!!!!!!update required

hey can anyone help im having problems with south park i have tried all the help pages but i still get the message saying update required and when i update it an update screen appears takes about 20 sec but then nothing happens and it still tells me to update the game please help

restart steam, verify the game.

yea tried that it says im missing 1 game file and it reinstates it but the game still says it requires an update but still it wont update

strange, try canceling the update.

delete the exe and maybe a few other small files from the game folder (or just move/backup) and then verify again before launching.

make sure steam has admin rights

it wont let me cancel update it says it needs update to play game, the update is approx 8.5MB and i have run it in admin and still nothing

damn, ok.... does steam allow you to uninstall the game?

Short of redownloading the entire game try this....

first backup the entire game folder, then uninstall, reinstall but pause the download, exit steam and put the files back.

*edit*
if it wont let you do that either, close steam then move the folder.

it wont let me back up the game untill all updates have been downloaded i tryed reinstalling the game but it does the same

don't try backing up through steam, goto the games folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\South Park - The Stick of Truth

just close steam, move the folder to a new location and then start steam again.

let it start downloading the full game again for a minute or so then pause it, close steam, and put the folder back.

Also I forgot to mention when steam downloads files, at first it saves them to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\downloading\?????

????? will be a folder named with some numbers "i think its the game's ID", you might need to put the south park files into that folder.

there should only be 1 folder if southpark is the only download, but double check that the contents match.

np man, sorry it didn't work

before giving up man, just delete the game folder, and the contents of that download folder.

that should remove it from steam fully, and then try reinstalling fresh.

Hey if you haven't alreayd bought it on x box, try disabling your anti virus and then verify the game files. Mcafee and a few others have been hitting the .exe as a false positive which can cause this an other errors
