Having difficulty with abilities (spoilers)

Some of the abilities have no indicator, that I can see, on when timing and even what buttons to press. For instance I continually miss timing on Butters Hammer of Justice.... because I don't know the button or timings on it. What am I missing to figure things like this out?

Before you attack a target it tells you what buttons you need to use to achieve a combo hit.

As an example we'll use Butter's Hammer of Justice since you mention you miss with it.

You'd pick the ability and during targeting it reads as follows. Mash A and D (together, do not alternate) then left click when you see the flash. (Personal tip, there is a distinct sound that always plays when the flash goes off). It takes some time getting used to, but the nice thing is the ability hints are always there during targeting.

For instance, I just did the Ground Stomp for the Fighter, I honestly cannot see any command buttons on screen. It says "Jump" but not what button will do that.

Nvm, figured it out. I kept looking for buttons DURING the animation.
