Cup-A-Spell

On the quest called "The Bard". You're supposed to use the cup-a-spell ability out of combat in order to hit the lantern which trigers the propane tank. How ever when i hold the right key on my mouse and try to cast the spell out of combat all that happens is a quick fart. when i went throught training it was right key, then a and d, then you hit left key to cast it. any help?

Out of combat you hold G and you press E to go back and forth from dragonshout to cup a spell
