Difference between Adventure 2 and Battle?
Want to find the difference between these games, any answers? I also recently completed **almost** all of the mainline 2d sonic games, 1, 2, and cd, and with yet to complete sonic 3 & knuckles as I dont own it. So with completing almost all the 2d mainline games im gonna get into the 3d spectrum of the franchise, of which I'm pretty excited. Gonna be starting with adventure 1 but before I buy these games I'm just asking the difference between battle and 2

also mb for rambling on for just a simple question

Do you mean Sonic Adventure 2 Battle or Sonic Battle?

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is just a DLC for Sonic Adventure 2 which adds some local multiplayer and chao garden stuff.

Adventure 2 was the name of the original Dreamcast game.

Adventure 2 Battle was a mostly enhanced Gamecube port that added more multiplayer options, Chao Karate, and some small gameplay tweaks. Kind of like how Adventure 1 got the DX port later.

In terms of Steam, the Battle DLC is just Chao Karate and Multiplayer options from the Gamecube version.

If you want to add some confusion, the Steam version is actually the Gamecube port and not the Dreamcast one, even without the DLC. That’s just a fun fact though.

You should also at least know the story of 3K cause the Adventure games directly follow it.

You may as well get the Battle version, or if you're getting it on Steam, get the Battle DLC with it. Not only does the Battle version contain a few enhancements here and there compared to the original Dreamcast release, it also adds extra multiplayer content not found in the Dreamcast release if having a 2 player Sonic game is your thing.

The GameCube version also reworks the Chao Garden to make it compatible with the Game Boy Advance and the Tiny Chao Garden, also featured in Sonic Advance, as opposed to relying on the Dreamcast VMU. Sadly, the Steam version does not include such connectivity but everything else about the Chao Garden remains intact.

Here's a link to a more complete list on Sonic News Network which includes differences that aren't obvious from screenshots, mostly non-visual ones.

Also, the strange appearance of the results screen and alarm effects in cutscenes in the Dreamcast screenshots list is because when they were taken, I hadn't learned how to use Null DC's widescreen options properly. I used the JP version of the game, which I also have for physical Dreamcast.

Yo this is great, thanks man!

Yeah, those are some weird graphical changes between versions. Although some of those like the blinking red light or the Danger sign being changed are just stylistic changes.

Some of those can be mod fixed, but the only real mod I recommend to not overwhelm is one that changes the Sound Effect volume to be lowered. Thats because the HD ports (PS3/360/PC) made the sound effects much louder than they were meant to be on DC/Gamecube.

Thankfully, most of these changes are minor and don't really affect the overall experience in any way. Even obvious stuff like the Danger/Warning sign I'm perfectly fine with either way as it still presents more or less the same context.

I guess you could say they experienced the infamous "red ring of death" in those versions?
