If you are new to music in this game.....
If for some reason you started as a pianist (love the class) stay away from the only initially crafted instrument, The LUTE.

I had Ashland go aggro on me for some reason near the start (little girl killed him so fast for me to notice) and dropped his guitar which has only like 25 songs to memorize. I've been collecting the various instruments and am currently 54.5 in music, the Lute has over 68 songs and several weeks game time just playing it I still skip notes early on mastered songs.
The lLute is a trap, if you want easy, hit up a furniture store and by hook or by crook get a trumpet with like 6 songs (it's a bit loud).

Lastly... not really important, but.. There is no way in vanilla-given hell that little girl killed ash. (unless i just completley misunderstood and you did not infact start a new game)

*edited because wrong information.

Im at 90 music now, and whats bound to the number 9 in my toolbar ?

The Lute.

I tried other instruments, but the Lute is just the best in my experience to entertain people longer before they got bored and the dreaded 'Almost everyone ignored you' message shows up.

I think Fiama must have killed him in OPs game. It happened to me as well. I found the two were fighting as I walked into meadow for some reason and then Ash died, dropping his guitar, his figurine, his grave that says "Fiama, I'm sorry", and also his pants. Yes he dropped his girdle.

Definately it was Fiama.
Those two can get into fights for two reasons - One, one of them getting drunk and hitting on the other (humorous), and two, Playing music where one of them damages you triggering a follower to become hostile, and the other coming to your defense against the aggressor.

I've had civil wars break out in base over this issue where everyone starts slaughtering eachother, especially when you have residents with the cover trait (like shiba dogs) who will take damage for other residents.

Get a mic from palmia using furniture tickets, only need 2, there is almost no point in using any other instrument except the gong, which is basically the same thing but with +holy dmg for throwing. And remember, playing the same instrument constantly makes you specifically better with that instrument.

Is that a thing ? Damn, this game actually just gets better and better !

Probably explains why I had better luck with the lute rather than the mic despite the 'it makes your performance better'. I used a mic for a while, but once I got a Rubynus Boomerang, I returned back to the Lute.

Seems like a common thing with Elin.
Even 800 hours in, i'm still being face-punched daily by new mechanics or understandings of things I either never knew or thought I knew and was wrong about.

It's also one of the things I really prize Elin for. A lot of games have a lot of varying features and mechanics, but they lack any supreme depths. In Elin, each mechanic at some point can feel like an entirely new game of it's own.

I'm just sitting here watching this new little tourist i just created, sitting in a quiet isolated field with a grand piano mashing out those keys like a pro, with a whopping 1.00 in music. I think she's better at playing this thing at this point than my Pianist is. (my pianist was a harp meister), which is.. mind blowing.

Instruments don't matter, skill and bonuses do. Each instrument has its own song you have to master and hidden proficiency modifiers but its all fluff. If you like the song or convenience of one "throwable variations" do whatevery you like.

If you like throwing weapons, Pantsu and gong are great for high DR enemies and the Mic can easily deal over 2d100 late game BEFORE converting its material to something like emerald. Boomerangs do more damage for the same material type, but that takes up an additional inventory slot. Instruments do NOT currently in early access give stat bonuses due to being held as opposed to equipped. Just have fun

I just realized that cursed flying scrolls make items heavier, while normally this is bad this is good if you want extra +PV at -DV on armor... While weapons get +attack with -hit chance this means is does double the effect on a throwing weapon. Might need to see what the calculations on STR damage cap on throwing weapons is, theoretically the best throwing weapon is a god altar since its indestructible and to convert materials you just convert to different gods.

It may be theoretically the most damaging, but it doesn't return to your hand, so it's kind of useless.

I found two Putits in Amber so I didn't take the mic. Does standing on the same tile as a furniture mic boost a performance with a grabbed instrument? I thought I noticed at Entertain quests that it made the performance of an oak guitar that was cheap at the furniture vendor better received when standing on the furniture mics in the quest map, but I could be wrong.

Only the instrument you use counts, you're probably getting more from those instrument rooms because that's where the 'high-value' npcs start the mission gathered together.

Elin is like a complex castle made of cards... Except super glued at the points and the cards are 3d printed.
