Can't extinguish fire
My base lit on fire because of the cauldron and there was no option to put it out.

All my entire base burned to the ground...

How the hell do we put out fires?

Oh.. That can happen? Thats crazy lol
Wow, yikes.
Maybe it's a bad thing my base is still made out of grass...

But, what did you try?
Did you try using a watering can on the flames?
Ice magic? Plopping something non-flammable on it, like a stone block?
I think fires are a new thing, so I'm unsure.
I can confirm watering can works. I set my cooker on fire earlier, along with a NPC standing on top of it. Pulled out my watering can and doused them both, you get an "extinguish" option to do it. Always carry a filled watering can.

I didn't try ice magic.

I don't think anything would have happened because my hearth is level 6 and supposed to be protected from fire, but it was still alarming.

Don't do fire related crafting when your mind is in debuff states or your stamina in negative range, just like real life you shouldn't drive when you're sleepy, exhausted or drunk.

As now only water can can extinguish fire, yes and I learned it the same way as you...
You can extinguish fire by casting ice spells on the fire. But ice also has a chance to destroy stuff so you might cause more damage if you are not careful.

Do you know if firebreaks would work like shoveling around the cooking station so it sits on dirt?
make a water tile and put your cauldron in it, that what i did it no longer start fires, it happened to me because i tried making food outside my level range i believe but im not 100% sure.

Yes, that's what causes it.

This has worked for me, in the 5-6 times I've set my campfire ablaze. I just dug out all the grass in the vicinity squares.
I have had fires happen due to just trying to roast some blueberries. Once, I had to use an ice arrow, multiple times, to put out the spreading fire. If I didn't have that spell, I would have been screwed, as I was on day zero with no hope of making a watering can or some such item.

Now, I save before every cooking attempt. But for those new to the game, well, I can see some refunds happening due to this 'feature." lol

Failures/fires will only occur if you attempt to cook something that requires a higher skill level than your cooking skill.

Except microwaves. Screw microwaves. Those things will explode and kill every living thing in the dining hall, and blow out all the walls attempting to cook boiled eggs with a 51 cooking skill.
I always carry the watering can in slot somewhere VISIBLE on the UI to remind me that I have the option to use it. Enemy with FIRE BREATHE ATTACKS? Get wet. Fire at the stove? Put it Out.
