I also have one of these. Since it has both fire and acid proof qualities with a precious tag, i can only assume it'll be more important in the future of the game. Its also got a raw item value of about 7.2k.

that or its just a piece of trash important to the lore or something like that. All we can do is wait till someone figures something out or an update releases. It's kinda creepy though.

I've read it's a cursed item that affects your entire save with permanent hidden decrease to drop chances, stat gains and general luck, and if you try to get rid of it it gets worse.

There are also rumor's of it only appearing in pirated copy's, but clearly that's not the case.

It's just a spooky baby carving, nothing short of code diving will confirm otherwise i think.

Also placing it on a bed prevent's the ominous message you normally get from dropping/placing it, unless it was patched or something

When i saw this, i was immediately reminded of some sort of folk lore or legend, or something about a weeping mother being obsessed over the wooden carving of a baby, having lost her mind being unable to recognize that the wooden carving isn't her lost child, or just not being able to accept it.

I am fairly certain this is a folklore easter-egg reference to something, I just don't know what precisely.

I unfortunately lost this item to an important container I had with important stuff in it, likely due to selling an extra tent I had that was the wrong tent, with that container in it. It's unfortunate. I kinda liked keeping it in my hotbar. The way it fit on the avatar when held was actually quite nice.
