Solo Luna DPS check : Isn't it just too absurd?
I feel like it requires you to have 280 > DPS just to barely pass their 'check', and it feels... really hard to obtain this level of DPS.

Just picking 2 damage items on 1st map is not enough, you need to pick 'best 2 damage item that matches your class' or maybe 'good 1 damage item + best dps skill upgrade on shop' to get this dps.

So the real problem is this : if picking damageless items will just make you lose the game, then what's the point of these items?

Well maybe I can pick them up after Scholar's Nest,(never done it :P) but before then, those damageless items are just total garbage for players.

EDIT: On second thought, there were already a ton of crappy items even in normal difficulty, so not a surprise to see most items become garbage in luna. Fair.

The way i see it: lunar = if you physically hate yourself and want pain/want to be chewed up and spat by every enemy; hard = good time with the bois, turn the game into a discord call while giving some challenge

I only see Enrages being cast maybe 1/5 runs... and many of those times it's the sort of "I still squeak by a couple seconds later" that could have been avoided through better play. It does mean taking fewer effects that are purely defensive, unless you're actively leveraging that defense into offense.

Like don't get me wrong, there are still occasionally runs where I'm like "I just got loot screwed hard" but it's been very, very few of my attempts.

It is, lunar is not fun unless you are playing strong dps classes. Mage for example is not viable at all whether solo or coop right now. Unless your teammates highroll and can carry you.

Also the first couple treasure determines if you even have a chance at all. No big dps ticket item? Restart run.

Lunar is not balanced at all except for the top percentile of both skill and dps. You can probably be the best at dodging with the assassin but if you cannot hit your target consistently it doesn't matter.

lunar is def tough alone due to how scaling is in this game

the game ultimately does want you to play with others, it ends up being more forgiving (damage wise) when you have help.

Definitely my experience as well, lunar on solo is just not fun on a lot of fights. On hard, the only fight I thought was bad was the dragon, all the others can be learned pretty well, but the dragon has just too much going on at the same time.

Hmm maybe class matters. Which class do you use for solo luna run?
100% agree. If you don't get a good DPS item from the first two treasures, you might as well reset. Lunar feels very unfun to play when you lose due to no fault of your own, because half the items in the game just aren't viable for it :/

"should have picked better items"
how. there is no way to influence what you get yet. it would be more reasonable if you could choose chests, reroll them, or there were artifacts or rerolls in the shop... but there aren't.

with itemization currently so terrible, the game SHOULD be balanced around rabbits baseline dps. But it isn't.

Nah

Items are cool, its the core of every roguelite which is this game. The randomization of the items is what makes it diverse, somethings works better than others, thats true, but the same item set on different characters make a difference.

What could be cool, might be rerolls of the shop or the items shown on treasures. You might have 3 rerolls per-game, but that saves the hassle of resetting the run.

The DPS checks go up by like 40-50 per stage, and it starts at a generous 135 in outskirts...

The DPS checks aren't too bad so long as your luck doesn't just give you 100% defensive items... which, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Hmm that sounds weird. With 250~ DPS I always see them Enrage. And few minutes ago I just failed with 300 DPS bruiser since I concentrated too much on dodging and failed to hit boss well :P

Nah

Losing to RNG stinks in what is ostensibly a skill-based game.

You have to have skill be able to overcome bad item rng, even if it's harder or easier some runs. This is a hard requirement.

But as it stands, you'll often hard lose to item rng too often. Bad design.

How do you know you did 300 DPS if you failed the run?

I mean that's ideal damage that I could pull off(seeing previous bosses).

Tbh, there SHOULD be a DPS check after run fails.
