And enter WINDLLOVERRIDES=“xaudio2_9=n” %command% into the launch options. Doesn't work for me personally, but it is a workaround for whoever it works out for.
I haven't added the dll fix for the steam deck issues as this post does not cover the steam deck, as that's a whole other beast, also, it doesn't seem the dll fix helps to actually fix the sound itself on PC. Then again, I haven't seen that many reports on it, and I am not going to try it for now, too busy to play.
But audio quality that is screwed up and worse than the 2011 release?
NO. Just no. That is not acceptable.

- The game is forced at 720p, even though Konami advertised it would run at 1080p! This is insane for any modern release;
- Unstable framerates, both in pre-rendered FMVs and actual gameplay;
- This release is basically an untouched port of the HD Edition, it feels as you're literally playing the PS3/XBOX 360 version;
- Music and some audio are compressed in comparison to the HD Edition;
- No settings for modern platforms, you can't change graphics, anti-aliasing, controls or even switch between windowed and fullscreen;
- Mouse sensitivity is not good and can't be changed, but you can control the camera with IJKL instead;
- Key mappings are weird and can't be remapped;
- It doesn't even support Cloud Save, a very basic feature. The save file is inside the game folder, if you uninstall without backing it up, your save is gone;
- The Start button is set to the Tab key on the keyboard, you can't change or disable this, so everytime you use Alt+Tab, it will open/close the game's menu;
- Your gamepad inputs are all active when the game window is minimized;
- The instruction manual available in the HD Edition was removed, you can only see a worse version of it online in a Konami webpage;
- When you change your button layout on the launcher, it only changes for you to use on the launcher to read the books, on the game it remains as the default XBOX button layout and can't be changed;
- It doesn't work on Steam Deck;
- There's no search option for the Master Book and Screenplay Book, like a Ctrl+F functionality;
- The download feature of the launcher to download the Japanese version doesn't work, you have to use SteamDB to get it;
- There's a bug in which Snake's 3D model flickers in a couple of cutscenes;
- It seems some voice overs are out of lip sync.

EDIT: For AMD users, go to GPU panel > Display. Set Brightness to -12 and Saturation to 115. This will match the correct color scheme from the original version.
I couldn't. Sorry. If Konami doesn't end up fixing these games, modders will. Konami deserves ♥♥♥♥ if they don't fix it, but I've seen them attempt to update MGS1 today multiple times. Seems like there were issues, because all that happened was they installed the DLC I didn't have, uninstalled it in another update, then repeated these two updates again and that was it. I installed the missing DLC on my own terms so it wouldn't be able to happen again for me, although having more dialogue language options isn't such a bad idea the more I think about it.
Wow. Good luck finding all the stuff fans. I feel for you and salute you. I am just very angry and sadge.
Still needs to be thoroughly tested but maybe a glimmer of hope. :)
About to test it out as we speak. I'll report back with the results.
That is unfortunate. I still have to try it myself. We'll see if it does anything on my end. :/
