Duckstation doesn't emulate the game as if it was played on PS1, so compare MGS1 PS1 with this collection, or at least use patches for the MGS1 collection if you want to be fair.

It's like comparing MGS1 PS1 versus MGS TTS, well the PS1 version still win easily but that wouldn't be fair.

Pixelated garbage vs 4k master race, it's an easy win

Yeah, that's why it's better than the emulator "developed" by Konami.

Duckstation (or some other emulator) has a "fidelity" mode that tries to be accurate to the console experience, though. How accurate it is, I wouldn't know because I never compared them side by side.

That texture filtering is ugly though. This pic is nice https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EzWmE5QUcAA6r9Y.jpg:large

4k master race didn't exist in 1998 when this game was released, simples.

4k is a resolution, and thanks to emulation you can improve the internal resolution 9x times and above that.

Hi Guys, one question though: When you get the Masters Collection on Steam, is it possible to get the iso/bin/other type of rom image from the download/installation folder to play it in another emulator (like duckstation)? There are so many threads about emu vs. master collection, but i still couldn't figure out if the Master Collection could simply be used as a source for the roms (trying to be 100% legal ;-) ... though i bought the CDs for PSX like 25 years ago :-D ... so i shouldn't really care about it :-D)

It's not an .iso file, it's 2 files:
alldata.bin 4gb
alldata.psb.m

and the EU/JP
dlc_europe.bin (8gb vs 2 on the ps1 original)
dlc_europe.psb.m
dlc_japan.bin (4gb as the alldata.bin)
dlc_japan.psb.m

You don't need 4k for MGS to look better than it does in the Master Collection. What you say is nothing more than a justification of Konami's law of least effort

ISO is a common terms not only applied to ISO format but also to all of other disk image types including bin. This term widely replaced ROM terms, which was used for cartridge base games. You can call it all an image, but image could also be a picture and photo, so you need to specify its a disk image, and it was long term, so people used to call all disk images an ISOs and cartridge images a ROMs.
