No controller support, lol
I knew there is no keyboard support, but apparently there's no controller support either? I can't get past the terms of use screen, my controller isn't detected. What gives? Anyone encountered and solved this issue?

What kind of controller are you using? Have you enabled support for it in steam controller options? Making sure it's plugged in before you start the game?

And what controller are you even using? I plugged both my Xbox 360 Wired and wireless controllers and they both worked out of the box. Same thing with my PS4 controller wired and on wireless Bluetooth connection. There was no issue with the game identifying or even have their buttons layout remapped.

My controller work well and it's not an official controller, I press circle/B to confirm and X/A to cancel.

My controller is an official Xbox One Controller, supposedly one of the most compatible controllers out there (;_;)

360, Xbone, Ps4, no name, Logitech, they all work for me. Make sure to check the respective boxes under Steam > settings > controller, otherwise Steam won't recognize any controller brand

Press B instead of A

>Right click game in library
>Go to Properties
>Go to Controller
>Enable/Disable Steam Input, depending on what is already selected choose the opposite.
>*If it is already set to "Default" then choose Enable Steam Input, if that doesn't work try disabling it instead.
>Launch Game

You can do all this while in-game as well without closing the game, just alt+tab out to do it and return to the game to see if the setting you chose worked.

I get this issue all the time in various games and this fixes it 99% of the time for me.

You can do all this while in-game as well, just bring up steam overlay and the Controller settings are an option at the bottom.

I see threads like this all the time from people who never had Steam Input enabled in the first place.
You might have wanted to have the start with going to Steam > Settings> Controller and make sure they even have it on to begin with, then your steps.

Possibly. But what I suggested to do is doing the same thing, just per game not globally. After 6k+ games I realized it was more of a PITA to leave it enabled than just change it as necessary per game in 5 seconds. I actually have more issues/conflicts with controller input leaving it enabled.

You can't do it per game unless you do it globally first though; unless that changed recently.
PlayStation controllers for example need to go through the whole naming and customization thing. (Xbox controllers never really need Steam Input, except for the Elite and some 3rd party ones)

It's also broken on Steam Deck.

In which you can NOT toggle Steam Input on and off.

It does work properly on my Desktop PC. But Deck is stuck on Keyboard controls.

Yep. Did the trick for me with my Xbox Elite 2 Controller. Had to disable Controller input and then the game works. Thanks.
having the same issue on the steam deck and nothing ive tried from this to research on how to fix this never worked for me

im having a similar problem on mgs2, it was working completely fine just a couple of days ago but yesterday my controller just flat out stopped working. it may be due in part to an update that was rolled out on the 7th, but i genuinely have no idea. i've tried the steam input thing and anything else i can think of and none of it worked, and it's not an issue on my controller's end, it is detected fine in every other game under the sun and hardwaretester.com/gamepad, but it's only for these games that it's not working.

Not sure why, but I relaunched the game, This time, without big picture mode and it's working now.
