I would prefer fully automatic instead of single fire because the normal ray gun has splash damage so it can get rid of zombies much quicker with one bullet. It also feels like it has much more dmg/bullet than the ray gun mk 2. But oh well, the ray gun mk 2 bullets also penetrate so that's better too.
Also changing it to fully automatic would make the burst-fire mode pretty obsolete. So I guess you are right about the semi-automatic choice. Fully automatic would make it pretty overpowered.
You obviously don't play zombies that much I see.
Double tap in waw/bo1 - Increases rate of fire 33% (Does nothing to semi autos)
Double tap in bo2 - Fires 2 for every 1 bullet fired.
and the ray gun is ALWAYS full auto. Though its ROF is extremely low. Double tap simply increases this.
Btw no perk can make you pull your trigger faster. Its up to your finger to do that =)

Supposedly dt has some type of affect for all weapons. To me dt has always made the guns more powerful/better at killing zombies.
WAW had double tap 1.0 as well.

Dude watch the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7cCzA5CJXs
Are you blind or can you not see he is shooting once and two bullets are comming out? watch at 0:34 if you really need proof
1.0: Greatly increases RoF on Full-Auto weapons, including the Ray Gun.
2.0: Greatly increases RoF on Full-Auto weapons, allows Semi-Auto weapons to shoot per rapid trigger-pull instead of having a slight "Cooldown" between pulls, and doubles damage (because it's DOUBLE Tap) with ALL weapons, except thrown grenades and (although unconfirmed) grenade launchers.
So there. Arguement: OVER. Now stop crying, change your diaper, and play the gosh-dang game.
