I like Survival because you're building something up for yourself, you try to get as much points as possible to get stronger and push the objective together with your team.
In Grief you usually have to "killsteal" zombies, which gives a bad feeling for some people, including me, and the enemy tries to deny you to get stronger, which is very frustrating.
In my opinion the Survival mode is just to relax, while Grief is usually frustrating, for me it is at least. Maybe it's just because I prefer co-op games over PvP games.
Bet Treyarch wanted to insert some kinda competitive clan vs. clan in it, to make more people interested in Zombie, but thats really not the right way. Thinking bout it, if they wouldnt have worked on grief, we may had a better turned game! :o

Only if that would be the real reason, that would be great... It is not the noob/pro thing that has to do with grief, it is the gameplay that works like s**t and makes people rage at each other especially it is bad if your friends start to hate you and what not... For example, take out the co-op campaign/survival modes out of zombies and you will see how many people would play it and how long it would last as actual game mode. And when I want to play grief just for the heck of it, it takes soooo long to start a match. Many times I leave it becuz nobody is there to find who would play it. Treyarch really has to stop with goofiness and implement co-op mode for 8 players. Everyone who wants to fight humans, just go mp, it's a lot more fun.
