People claim it has to do with your kill to death ratio. Personally I have only ever ranked through the leaderboard.
It is said that you can rank by stats but again I have only ranked through the leaderboard by going high rounds. I ranked all the way to knife after my first month after getting the game. Haven't really gone to high rounds since then. I make 30+ all the time but for shotguns you need to go to 40+ through the leaderboard. At least that is how it is for me.

I have played plenty of games, have had low deaths and high k/d, no rank has ever come for me that way. As I said only worked for me by going through the leaderboard and getting high rounds.

For me I first ranked after a few rounds 10+ then again around 20+ then again 30+. It helps if you don't go down alot and get alot of kills. But I have seen people with over 10 downs in a game and still rank up.

By leaderboard I mean that all members need to stay in the game to get the credit for the rounds. If someone timesout or quits it won't count towards the leaderboard. However, you still do get the stats. Although some people in some maps have found that if you crash out, you don't get any stats. I guess you just have to look at them before playing and monitor them for any change.
In Green Run you can have a player leave and still get credit for the remaining players for the leaderboard. That could also happen in the first DLC that was released. I haven't played those in awhile but that's how it use to be, could have changed again.

For the 2nd, 3rd and 4th DLC maps all players must remain in the game for it to count towards the leaderboard.

Btw, the blue eyes isn't a rank, just park of the tally marks. Tally marks just represent that you have been playing for like 5 days in a row or aka really long time consistently day after day.

First of all, kills have nothing to do with your rank.

According to Jimmy Zielinski (head developer for Black Ops 2 Zombies), the downs affect your rank. If you go down in an early round, it counts more to your rank than when you go down in a later round. Your rank is calculated by your average rounds divided by downs.

People think that K/D affects your rank, because the higher you reach rounds, the more kills you have usually.

Like I said, going through the leaderboard and getting high rounds is what has done it for me. If my k/d had nothing to do with it then cool. I personally didn't think it did but people kept saying at the time that is what helps but now I guess it's just the downs that can affect your rank.

Makes sense. Go down early can hurt you but lasting 20 plus rounds before going down likely wont hurt as much. Just don't keep going down.

Consistent Performance.

Example - Your first down always start from round 30.

It's not performance. Performance would include all kinds of factors, that's not the case in BO 2. It's just about not going down. Stay alive and don't go down is the key but that's easier said then done. Unless you simply don't try to revive which I've seen some people just stay alive without even attempting to revive. When I see that, i'm not interested in playing ith people who don't help. Don't want to try, then go play solo, that's why they have it.
