FTL Game Freezes: Can't get past the first Loading screen. (Solved)
This is a problem that has happen to me for quit some time. Every time I try to play FTL, my game screen doesn't get past the initial loading screen. When the loading bar fills up, I can hear the menu music playing, but I can't see or interact with the menu at all. I can't even quit the game by closing the window though the window screen or task bar. I have to go into task master, and close it from there.

I looked all over trying to fix the problem. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and I tried adding in "-directx" in the steam's launch options. I also tried opening the game as administrator, but the game would allow it for some reason.

I want to get back to playing this game again, but I can't for some fraken reason. Any help would be appreciated.

There may be other fixes, but I know this works:

Looks like the same issue many have been experiencing lately. Seems related to steam cloud sync. Try this post :

Hi, so i emailed support and here is what they said, which fixed it for me (sort of):

"I'm very sorry about this, but given that the loading bar fills the whole way before the crash, this may very well be a case of a corrupted profile.

You'll need to do a few things to test and fix this:

1. If you are using it, turn off Steam Cloud Sync. (From your Steam Library, right-click on FTL and select "Properties."--> Click the "Updates" tab. --> Uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for FTL." --> Click "Close.")
2. Close Steam completely.
3. Move or rename your current profile - the one in "My Documents / My Games / FasterThanLight". You're looking for prof.sav and/or ae_prof.sav
4. Without restarting Steam, run FTL directly from its installation directory. It's most likely located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FTL Faster Than Light.

If the game works properly when you do this, then we know the issue was a corrupted profile. The game will run, but all your data will be lost. The following fan-made tool can then be used to restore lost ships and achievements (Even though it's fan-made, it's the one we use ourselves):

Vhati's FTL Profile Editor: http://www.subsetgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10959

Please let me know if the issue persists after doing this. (I would also recommend leaving Steam Cloud Sync off for a few play sessions so that it does not attempt to full the older - corrupted - version back down.)"

SAY thank you to Isla from the dev team for coming in clutch (they responded with a day)

I tried it and it manage to run. Though my old data is lost, I can make up for it in time. Though I like to know if I can connect this game to steam again without the corrupted data file coming back?

Never mind Steam asked on that and I mange to get my new data to cloud. Thanks guys, it was so annoying being unable to play it. I'm glad I can play this game again, and I really appreciate your help.
