In-game, enable Steam Overlay, select "Controller settings" up right corner, it will switch to Steam Controller Settings, select "Browse settings" down bellow, select "Templates" on left side, select "Gamepad" (should be the first template above WASD), click on it, select "Use settings" down bellow, select done -> profit & enjoy

Yes you can use a controller. I'm currently using the newest Xbox One controller with bluetooth and playing it wirelessly. Before I was using a PS3 controller with motionjoy.

didn't they have an issue back at launch where you couldn't invert the Y axis? If so is it fixed? I would like to play this but I couldn't get past that issue.

I know this is four years after the fact, but if the y axis inversion isn't available in the game, you can just go to controller settings on steam overlay while in game, and invert y axis through there.

Hey Khimari Ronso, thanks for the help in this thread and suggesting that fix, within the Steam overlay settings. Selecting from different controller profiles is something we would advise too, thanks for letting us know the generic gamepad setting is the one that worked for you.
