Didn't played DND so can't give you a very correct answer. I play Lotro at moment, i used to play MMO's since long ago, i own a pserver of one, and i consider LOTRO a master piece in terms of RPG's so it totaly worth to try it

From what I hear DDO went to hell with this Underdark expansion so I honestly don't know anymore. But to be sure, there's a LOT more for F2P players to do in LOTRO as opposed to DDO where you'll be doing the same quests over and over and over again.

I prefer LOTRO personally, and I actually did play D&D in the past. Making an optimum or personalized character in DDO takes so much planning it turned me off from the game. I could have just gone with a generic path for character development on DDO, but that didn't appeal to me. As for LOTRO, the massive world, stories, lovely landscapes, Tolkien mythology, the game's polish, and more drew me in. I hear gameplay is similar to World of Warcraft, but that doesn't bother me. With the new Rohan update, mounted combat sounds very interesting to me.

@Sakoy http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/306052 WoW is a puny midget of a world compared to LOTRO. And Lotro has real people, male and female from ages 12 to 60...... WoW is full of cellardweller shut in neckbeards and annoying schoolkids

I played WoW and hated it, tbh. It just didn't grab my interest. LOTRO is my vote as best F2P. I guess I can't put it better than Bradge, so im off...join up on LOTRO and give it a go. what ya gonna lose?

I love DDO, but for my money, LOTRO has a huge world to run around in versus one city with a bunch of instanced dungeons.

The RP community is bigger and better. DDO has some great RP guilds, but RP is mostly done in private within the guild. LOTRO has dedicated RP servers where everybody RPs in public - very refreshing and much more inviting.

LOTRO also has the bells and whistles that DDO lacks, like player-owned housing and horses.

Oh - and you can actually SIT in the damned CHAIRS. *cue laughter from all the DDO refugees*

You probably ought to try them both f2p, then go p2p when you decide which one you like better.

DDo is a unique mmo as far as i can remember you can't play it solo - expect the first dungeons or your good equiped and got the knowledge how to survive a dungeon without a party but to get a high level char you need to party up . Lotro is more like a usual MMO WoW,Daoc ect. with a more open world and your able to survive solo a long time if you really like, i played both for years and can't really say wich one i would prefer but i tend to say it's lotro wich is better, bigger and nicer (expect your a Dungeon&Dragons Fan) :)
Regardless of how much people hate wow, it is still an increadibly good game in terms of gameplay and lore.
I don't like the game that much anymore, but it's still one of the best mmo's out there. I just hope this one will also be awesome so I got something else to spend time with while on my computer.
