1.) You don't ever have to pay for anything, ever in this game. When they said you have to pay after around level 30, they ment for the next area to level in, but you don't have to. There is a way to get to max level without paying because there is no level cap for free to play people and that is called Skirmishes and Instances. You can do them over and over again, just raising the level again and again to get more xp.
2.) No, it isn't hard to get tp without paying, just time consuming. the only way to get tp without paying is doing something called deeds, like kill so many of these bears, or use this skill so many times, or find all these places... Not hard at all.
3.) As far as I know, the game uses something that protects against over-lay programs because it is very hard to record lotro without it crashing... Most recorders are just an overlay and the game detects it and crashes.
4.) As far as I know, the game is based on the books, not the movies, but there is the shire, and Bree. Actually, Bree is the main place to go for any server.
5.) For this one, I don't know... I know I deleted the game to download it through steam, but that's about it...Sorry.
1) if you deed in the starter areas which are: ered Luin, Shire. Bree, and the newly for free Lone Lands you can afford to buy another area. One new character can do this. It is time consuming but if you want the joy of the game playing for free you will find yourself exploring a certain list of places in a zone, kill two deeds worth of enemies (two Tiers), and finding lore objects (random mob drops for some deeds. Each map has its own deeds and it can get boring but the game is worth it if you enjoy the books or the moovies.
2. Every deed gives from 5 (fiirst tier) up to 25 (4th tier) as a normal payout. its not much but considering that each area can have around 15 - 20 deeds it adds up.
3. I never use cheat programs or had a problem with LOTRO getting upset with an anti virus program. I have used Avira and Microsoft's Antivirus stuff with no problems
4. the game is more based on the books, what Hollywood pulled out to make the story flow better theatre wise is in the game, the old forest, tom bombadil, barrow downs, and many of the iconic places of the books are featured in this game.
5. Yes it will, but if you dont buy anything or buy anything it will do the same. I had to go back to the store page to redownload.
I hope this helped and gave you some info on the matter. You will like the graphics of the game, a little dated but it is still pretty. It is worth it in my eyes to do the deed grinds to play, but to get all the content it will take many toons and an extra long time to play for free. But if your like me, take it slow, deed all starter areas on one toon, buy game in level sequence: North Downs, Evendim, Trollshaws, Misty Mountains, Forochel, Angmar eregion, Enedwaith or mines of moria, Lothlorien, Mirkwood, Dunland, The great river, East Rohan, Wildermere.
It is much easier though if you find you like it to buy the expansions than just to use points. Turbine only allows the quest packs to have the quest packs for the expansions, Mines of Moria, Siege of Mirkwood, Isengard, and Riders of Rohan all have Instances that come with them you cant play just by buying the quest packs in the lotro store. but the catch is..the expansions in the store cost around 3,000 - 5,000 points each to buy.. thats an insane amount of deeding to play the game. If you like it by then just buy the expansions to not go crazy. its a good game just takes a ton of patience and actual work to play totally free.
3. I run Windows 7 Pro and Avast free AV without any issues while running LOTRO.
Is a breif intro to F2P deeds and TP
3- The game does not use anti-cheats; however, Macros and the like ARE a violation of the Code of Conduct. The game does have a Lua interface, but it does not provide macros.
I am not aware of any "overlay" breakers... although both the Steam Overlay and others do cause problems with LOTRO... but that is just the nature of Overlays.
Anti-virus products are NOT a problem. Howver anti-Malware is. It is known that avast!'s anti-malware product (Web Shield) needs to have "holes" punched in it like a firewall, as it will impact the Patch process of the game. see:
{LINK REMOVED}http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Mac_Client#The_Mac_Client_and_anti-malware_.28anti-virus.29_software
for details. (PC and Mac are the same)
4- I don't know Steam, but my understanding is -- if you delete a game from the Steam Library, you delete the game. However, once downloaded, Steam is NOT necessary for either Gameplay or Patching. ... simply move the Game itself out from under Steam before you delete it from the Steam Libray...
... SteamApps/common/Lord of the Rings Online/
contains the game in the folder "The Lord of the Rings Online(tm)
2. you keep mention the term "cheat", im talking about anti-cheat, like gameguard, im a
cheaters hater, i never used and i dislike anyone use them, i just asked if it uses anti-cheat
because they often do problems with avast.
3. is there a way to attach lotro to the library even if uninstalled? even if i have to buy something
for that.
and again thanks everyone! really nice community in this game.
However, LOTRO has the LOTRO store, where you can spend Turbine Points (TP) earned in-game or for case to purchase various armour/weapon/skill upgrades
As for the availability of Turbine Points, I have bought a total of 3 things with money - Mines of Moria, Riders of Rohan, and one month's subscription. Everything else I have I bought using Turbine points I earned. The only thing I'm really missing at this point are some monster characters, one guild membership, and one skirmish. If you are willing to wait for things to go on sale and you are willing to do a decent amount of point grinding, you can get by without spending real money.
this game will shut down in 2014 due to end of contract with warner brothers.
i dont want to buy and then lose everything..
Of course sites like to report on the worst possible outcome, but as long as you don't hear an official yes/no from Turbine and/or Warner Bros, you can't be sure.
You could of course subscribe for a bit, or get the Mithril edition DVD. That's not too expensive, and will keep you busy well into 2014. If LotRO shuts down then, too bad, if the contract is renewed, by all means buy the expansion packs :-)
i hope it wont be cancelled.
Yeah, me too. It's a really solid and deep MMO, and I come back to it every year for awhile even though I never get to max level. It would be a real shame if they let the contract run out, but if it does I still think it was worth spending a few of my dollars on it for the many hours of enjoyment.
