Captain or champion ?

Hello everyone !

I'm kinda new to the world of LOTRO. I usually play the ranger on RPG, and D&D likes. The ranger is good because he's able to do a bit of everything, and has a pet.

I see that there's no such thing as a ranger pet in this game, so I'd go for a champion or a captain. I like dual wielding as much as 2h weaponry, I like beeing able to do a bit of everything (even if I don't master anything) and I like beeing able to switch between a ranged and a close combat weapon.

which one of these class would fit the best ?

Champion is a pure damage class, which can also tank a little and do some AoE. A Captain can tank a little/ damage a little/ AoE a little and heal a little. His main function though is to buff himself and his teammates. Some buffs are 5% more life, higher ICPR or better parry rating. Not forgetting his herold, who gives either a damage, health or Power boost to everyone. So Id go Cappy all the way

I see, so I guess i'm going on captain. Is his DPS respectable for soloing ?

and Isn't Menestrel a better buffer than the captain ?

Minstrels have other buffs, not necessarily better.
The Captain's DPS is good. and they have a minion (banner carrier)
I think all classes can solo quite well, if you like their playstyle. I can't get the hang of Lore-masters for example, so I can't solo them at all. YMMV as they say

Okay thanks then ^^ I'll go captain then ! As I heard, they are needed in party, I hope I won't have too much troubles finding one

You'll survive better solo as Champ, but get invited to more groups as Cap.
