installation process is a nightmare
after downloading like 16gb from steam and finally being able to launch the game today it takes about an eternity. First the launcher downloads or updates 70 files. that took like an hour, but i thought ok it may be necesarry. Then it had to "Iterate" a few thousend files and i thought wow soon its finally done
Guess what? Now it started to download 25703 files, one by one :squirtmeh:
I mean really?
You serious?

Welcome to the world of constantly updated MMOs.

The files Steam downloads aren't the current version of the game so it needs to be updated, and Turbine also released the latest expansion today so there's that to download too.

Game updates and bug fixes are bad.................right?
No, its welcome to the Turbine stupid launcher. 16Gigs to download and then 3 hours more to install? Okay, i did that.. But today i can't even enter the game cause its "checking files" and stuff. I don't remember World of Warcraft doing that.. There was a patch and done. Play.
They need for fix that Launcher cause its draging me away from the game.

this was not just a patch. It is a giant exp. And I am pretty sure when WoW cam out with new exp, there was problems on day 1 for ppl.

You can get into the game faster if you download it directy from the LOTRO website. The Steam download is relatively old and requires more updates than a direct download.

It didn't take very long for me. Try TERA though, it's even worse. I remember downloading it years ago, it was a nightmare. They either fixed the installation time or something or the steam version is faster.

I know the feeling. And the game was a massive dissapointment.

Lotro has been horrible for years about this. They appear to have a base game to download from all their download places, i think probably around moria or mirk time. And then every time you download it you have to redownload and repatch 2-3 expansions worth of data. They need to update their installer.

if you download it from turbine directly be careful which version you download. if you download the play now version it will download the happy cloud. probllem is that you cant disable happy could without deleting the game as well. the other one should be the pando media booster version. you can uninstall pando once it is done. or download it from here and create a shortcut to the launcher so you dont need to lo into steam to play. also remember that a lot of people are also downloading the expansion right now making updating even slower.

The Happy Cloud program will(should) go away when the download is completed.

Happy Cloud downloads a "starter" game and then continues to downlaod the remainder of the game while you are playing.

I've had a pretty bad experience patching the new exp. 28000 files, but it disconnects after every 1-2 thousand. a little frustrating... still have 8700 to go. I'm guessing it has something to do with me using the mac client.

Well, my Steam Account states 5 Hours of playing, but it was actual patching the Game. I installed LOTRO via Steam and it patched for hours. The day after the Helms Deep addon was published, so another few hours patching. So, waiting hours is normal.
