The Lord of the Rings Online™

Haven't played for a long time, is the game doing well or is it winding down?
Just curious, sometimes feel the urge to get back into it but the age of it stops me if its going to go into maintenance mode anytime soon.

Pending anything we've been on an uptick for years now. Better than probably what it was in say 2018-2019.

Now there are always declines in-between Major Updates (per usual & common not just with LOTRO) but we've steadily been staying above a certain amount.

steamdb says the player count has been increasing the past year, pretty cool tbh. Usually games decline in players per day, but this one has more players day by day for a year

Wish they'd upgrade the graphics to something way more modern.

A complete overhaul on the graphics. Not just the rendering pipeline.

Not likely to happen. The Art Style is always changing but the Graphics Engine will remain the same.

Pity. I doubt that it'll grow then as a game and only stay loyal to it's already formed fan-base. Which isn't a bad thing. Just not my cup of tea.
I was playing it like yesterday, on Arkenstone. This was a game I first started playing around 17 years ago, it was my first MMO and I was really craving the blasts from the past after all these years. I particularly enjoyed playing creep classes in PvP but after hanging around for a few hours, I realized the community is nowhere near as active as it used to be. That's expected of course, for a nearly 20 year old MMO but not even a blip of activity in the Ettenmoors on a Friday night, for over an hour? That kinda sucks. I did however see players here and there around Bree so I'm assuming the newer areas are likely more populated. I'll keep logging in I guess and hopefully end up in busier zones.

Edit: Thanks @ Elitewrecker! I just did my free transfer to Grim and sure enough, people all over the place.

Lots of people have migrated to the new servers. There was a thread on how the moors are so full there you now have to queue to enter it.

What new server would you recommend? I would like one with the most players active on it. Because I like a living feeling world with lots going on. :)

EDIT: Also, I want to try it out again because I love The Lord of the Rings a lot. But, also when I log in I'm bombarded with gifts and items and stuff and my character instantly jumps up so many levels. That I have no clue where I'm going or what I'm meant to be doing. What's the end game in this as well?

It'll depend on your region but there are 3 new 64-bit servers located in both the US and in the EU.
Two are "regular, one is "roleplay" oriented. Orcrist and Glamdring were the first wave of regular servers in each region and are the most crowded at the moment.

Most of those items are just cosmetics and consumables from the Anniversary due to your account age. Nothing important.
The item you used to jump levels was one-use-only for the entire account so it's gone now. You should have gotten a warning when using it.
