I will never play it and I doubt even without the woke propaganda they have the ability create a fun game. New World is such a boring and shallow game even in the Free-to-Try periods, I could not last an hour in that game.
For the lore reasons what concerns me is that they are very lazy and creatively bankrupt and won't even find a way to make the game interesting. There are Asian and African people - the ones in The Far East and the ones in Harad and Khand. I would be happy if they made the game to include all of Arda in some way so we can see how those people live better and have something like a 3 faction system - Middle Earth as Faction #1, Harad & Khand as Faction #2 and The Far East as Faction #3 or something like that, but that's expecting too much. This would be way beyond the creative scope of what Amazon can do.
I bet what they will do is set the game in the 1st or 2nd age in Middle Earth and then twist the lore to fit their agenda and will somehow call it Lord of the Rings again. The same thing that pissed me about LOTRO - they were planning to call it Middle Earth Online and feature an entirely different story (and the game could have been so much better), but out of fear that their customers are too stupid to realize that Middle Earth is the main setting for Lord of the Rings, they rename it so the game is more recognizable and made the story around Frodo's quest, which is why the game's story feels so weird after level 115, it feels like all the content up to 140 feels useless and pointless, because the quest for The One Ring has finished and they are doing what Retail WoW is doing - making up new story that makes no sense to keep the money rolling.
TL;DR:
I seriously doubt Amazon can do any justice to Tolkien's work, they are one of the worst people to be given the right to create products based on his work. They don't care about LOTR or Middle Earth, they don't love it, they have no passionate people about it in there, because if they had, those people would have left long ago seeing how they are butchering the work. Even without the franchise, Amazon have proven to be incapable of creating a good and fun game that can retain players - New World keeps bleeding players, on Steam it's reached a new low - 16,000. The rights to an Middle Earth/LOTR MMORPG should have been given to some indie studio made entirely out of passionate folks that know the lore of Middle Earth well and have ideas how to revolutionize the MMORPG genre without making it dumbed-down like ESO and accessible to Fornite and Candy Crush players. MMORPGs are a niche - the best and most iconic MMORPGS - UO, OSRS, Vanilla WoW, EQ1, SWG are all niche games and very few people play them compared to more casual and dumbed-down MMORPGs, but still everyone wants to use them as inspiration.
Amazon will ♥♥♥♥ it up, New World is utter Trash.
In other MMO's you are always the true hero, the savior, the light, you fight against gods and titans, but please go collect wood again and kill some more mice, but you are the legendary hero...
As long as Lotro doesn't run into licensing issues, the game will stay alive like Runescap and Everquest, and it appeals to a different group of players than the new action-driven MMO's à la New World, Black Desert.
Well, we live in a society, where being punished for making major mistakes is a distant memory. With that in mind, how exactly are people going to learn from their mistakes, when they are rewarded for them by being moved from one big project to another?
And this isn't just a Amazon problem, but a problem spreading through most larger businesses in the "entertainment" sector...
Anyway, once upon a time i might have been interested in new content from various big franchises, but these days i feel nothing towards news about new projects for them.
The other so called community of pro paid reviewers (+ twitch) and pro hype paid "customers" will have always good and shiny behaviour on every junk they know they will never reach full release or product maturity.
Disney is doing this with Star Wars and Indiana Jones - kills off the original characters or makes them look like pathetic and incompetent cowards and tries to enforce new characters who mean nothing to nobody and nobody relates to or likes.
Same is for games. Games as an art form or something for entertainment has died. Games now are a business, a machine for propaganda - creating addicts of all kinds - gambling addicts, dopamine addicts... also twisting morals and what's right and what's wrong, breeding generations of zombies...
...and also making obscene amounts of money on the side.
The reason Rings of Power and New World are the way they are is not a coincidence or a mistake, it was done on purpose, it was premeditated for the reasons I described above - to spread propaganda and brainwash people, the good thing is this isn't 100% working yet as most people see through it and are disgusted by it. It's the young children that are being brainwashed by this garbage though, which is the saddest and scariest part.
Of course, there will always be the brainwashed and ignorant people who will laugh this off and say things like:
"oh, this doesn't affect me"
"I don't pay attention to those things, neither should you"
"people who care about those things are crazy and need to go outside or get a life"
"those who are offended by this are bigots"
or other stupid things like this, but it's because they're already brainwashed, confused and indoctrinated or are just so self-righteous and self-loathing that they pretend to like this propaganda because it makes them forget how much they hate or ashamed they are of who they are.
I really like this George R. R. Martin quote, it really fits this issue nicely:
Because when you are speaking the truth, you are either being silenced (censored, banned) or you get mocked by the brainwashed, because that's all they can do and if it happens, it means you are really speaking the truth.
The solution is pretty simple. To avoid everything new and just enjoy old things, from before 2010. Watch old movies or TV series, play old games, don't spend money on anything new and it will slowly die, but the sad thing is too many people are brainwashed and will keep funding the propaganda and spreading it.
They said that they have learnt from New world, but their newest additions to New world are Battle pass and events. Events are great, battle pass is mindless grind (I didn't try it, but that is the core), so what is the point? Battle pass is just an excuse to stop pretending they have quests to kill mobs and they just have tasks to kill mobs and gathering materials?
Even if the MMO would be great, it will not have the LOTRO dream to be simulation of fantasy world with NPCs working and living there, which is what I prefer. It will not be innovative in any way. It will be just action combat and gathering as usually.
And it is Amazon which keeps ruining the setting on the top of it...
