Is trading between characters allowed?
I'm mostly thinking about using another character for crafting purposes. I know there's shared storage, but that costs 995 turbine points. I was wondering if it's allowed to give your items to a second party, switch characters and have them give the other character the items back. I'm not sure if this is against the rules though. So if someone can confirm whether it is or not I'd be greatful, thanks!

Yes, you're allowed to give stuff to alts.

You can use shared storage, or you can mail items (not sure if this is restricted; I do know that there's a restriction on mailing money around for f2p players).
You can also purchase a house for in-game gold, and use the storage chest it comes with (30 slots IIRC).

But if you want to move stuff around a lot, just grind the 995 TP ;-)

I'm still pretty new. I just want to be able to do woodcrafting and tailoring without having to rely solely on the AH. I forgot about mailing items and I didn't realize the house gave shared storage.

While shared storage would be the easiest, I have other things I need to buy (such as removing the gold cap) so it'll have to wait awhile. Thanks for the answers!

Do be aware that certain items can only be transferred between your characters via the Shared Storage option at the Vault. Anything that's "bound to account" can't be put in a house chest or mailed.

I'll keep that in mind if I plan to trade bound items. Thanks!

Also, if you find a friendly kinship, you can get crafting materials for free/symbolic cost from your kinmates.
Most players have a lot of alts, and still have a lot of (low level) materials.

I discovered this just yesterday. Since I couldn't found any Forester to buy them Leather (I'm a Tailor), I had to create another character, choose Explorer (that includes Forester), and send me Leather Pads, and such to my main account...

Keep in mind that LOTRO is as full of "leets" as any other game -- if you hand your stuff to another player, and it has any value, there is a 50% chance that you will never see that other player againh.

If you join a Kinship, different story. You can normally trust kinnies simply because you can find them :)

As Cookiemunster discovered -- if you do crafting, create one character as an Explorer to "feed" you materials. (Hides, wood and ore).

I'm currently playing with a friend, I was going to use him. We share resources well.
