The Lord of the Rings Online™

New to game need some help
Brand new to the game, I've been a massive Tolkien fan since around 8 years old and i'm now 43. I have been a elder scrolls fan since 97 and been playing eso as my only mmo experience since around 2018. I'm not finding anyone in chat to respond and people dont seem very friendly thus far but i am enjoying the game.

Im wonder if there is anyone who can help me get started in the game and social aspect. Really hoping this game will replace ESO for me as i intend to let my sub expire and move on to this game along with palia which i have also been playing.

How are guilds in the his game?
what is the overall community like?

I picked Galdden as my server not really knowing what to choose. I really dont feel like doing stuff all over again so id like to stay where i am on this toon for now if i like the game and get into it will consider trying again on a new server/ toon.

any help is appreciated.

edit : update thanks for all the help joined a kinship very helpful people enjoying the quests and having a good time thanks for the all the help!!!

Personal experience on Brandywine, Crickhollow, and several other servers showed me they were the most Socially Friendly, and Helpful servers. Players enjoy crafting gear for New Players, is one thing that's great.
Kins to join? Voice of the RIngs is one of the best New Player Friendly ones. You can also watch his YouTube videos searching the same name of the kin. The videos are like tutorials, and enjoyable. Plus, when he Live Streams, you might be able to join the Team/Fellowship in the actions held.[/b]

Welcome to Lotro.
When I started playing years ago I created a char on each of the most popular servers at the time and while I was farming some lotro points (Bear in mind that the Lotro Points you earn on any server are account-wide) I watched wchat to decide which one I would call home. This is good because the population of the server sometimes doesn't mean much if the time you play is different from the time most of the players on that server also play.

In the end I decided for Arkenstone.

But don't worry too much about this for now because in the future these 32bit servers will be transferred to new 64bit servers. They're still discussing how this will be done and we'll have more news in a live stream this week.

I don't have much to say about the guilds, which here are called kinships, because I play Lotro almost completely solo because I like the game world but I don't like raiding very much. It's the opposite of wow for me, where I hate the story, graphics and world but love the raids.

One thing I suggest to every new player is to take a look at this plugin that modifies the UI and makes it look more modern (it also changes some other details, such as the size of the map):

https://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info581-JRRSkinscollection-Atributetomiddleearth.html

There are other interesting ones too, such as MoorMaps, Plugin Compendium and Alt Inventory.

Another thing I've started using recently and I'm liking the results are reshades, this one is good and doesn't change too much to the point where the colors are too aberrant:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB3vPxuffjk

If you have any more questions, just ask. If you use discord, there's an official game discord that might be useful.

I remembered this video from Bludborne, it's from a year ago but it might help you decide where to play:

Generally, kinships advertise in the game chat, on discord servers or on the official website:
https://forums.lotro.com/index.php?forums/kinships.68/

Discord:

https://discord.gg/faT9NPkj

You can transfer, but you have to pay. As I said, you'll soon be able to transfer for free to the new 64bit servers. If you're just starting out, it's worth creating another char from scratch. Many people have characters on other servers to farm Lotro Points.

Use this tool to install addons: https://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info663-LOTROPluginCompendium.html

You can install directly from lotrointerface but the LotroPluginCompendium make things easier.

I’m more of a main person I only do alts once I finish all stories and usually use alts for only group content. So I will be able to switch to any server when that happens ?

I’m the kind of person who refuses to do the same quest more than once. So I likely wouldn’t wanna do it all over again

Got it. We dont know too much how the transfers will be. On last letter they said:

"In the early part of the first quarter of 2025, we plan to open new 64-bit servers in Europe and the United States. The new servers will be open to all players and will not require VIP status to access. We will have more information about servers and transfers to these new worlds in early 2025. This has been a long effort, and we appreciate your patience and support while we get all the details right.

You can expect Severlin to sit with Cordovan sometime after the start of the new year to discuss the decisions behind the 64-bit servers, their placement in Europe and the United States, and details on what to expect. We hope this news is welcomed and that you are as excited as we are at the opportunity the 64-bit servers and opening transfers will afford."

Gotcha. I’ll try and hopefully find a guild on this server but no one responds to me in the chat.

Is the chat commands the same as eso ?

What is the zone chat aka different places in the world the chat in eso it’s /z maybe in typing in the wrong place ?

Sorry my only experience with MMOs is ESO. Also how does trading work in this game.? In eso there is trader guilds that have traders I actually run a trader guild in eso.

Also is there beginner guilds, or do you need to be a certain level to join them ? And how do you actually apply to one?
Arcadio Jan 6 @ 7:51am
Try the recruitment channels or Gladen on discord. Regarding level, there are no restrictions, just look for the kinship profile, whether it's for casual, endgame, raid, pvp etc.

I haven't played EsO long enough to remember the differences in chat, but here there's the World chat, which is global, you'll read it anywhere; there's the Trade chat and the LFF which is for looking up players/groups (party here is called fellowship).

So selling and trading is only done in chat in this game ?

I assume /w or /world is the command to type into the world chat ?

I’ll look for gladden but how do I put in a application in game to join the guild ?

In eso we have a guild finder where you can literally apply in game or people post in chat and you can click apply the link or be invited. Just wanna know how this works
