The Lord of the Rings Online™

Corrput dat file detected.
Downloaded the game and when i started it it shows "failed" progress and Status which has its own timer. I restarted the launcher, but the problem doesn't go away anyways. Any ideas how to fix?

- If your LOTRO client is stuck while patching on a .dat or .datx =
1 Navigate to your Lord of the Rings Online installation folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\StandingStoneGames\The Lord of the Rings Online).
2 Delete all files in this folder with a dat or datx file type. They will all end in .dat or .datx
3 Restart the LOTRO launcher and the application should repair itself."

I believe the default steam install folder is:

...\steam\steamapps\common\lord of the rings online
the downloading folder should have the .dat/.datx files

Specifically On STEAM, and from a few other Game DL Locations... AVAST Anti-Virus shows that in a lot of Game Downloads, and Updates, and is WRONG! DISABLE YOUR ANTI-VIRUS & any VPN, for 10 Minutes while downloading the game. And you will see that I am correct.

In fact, get rid of any anti-vir on Win11, let Defender do it's thing. It's just as good (or bad) as all the rest out there, and it at least won't mess with other software.

I don't use any Anti-Virus programs neither VPNs so the problem probably isn't in there. I also tried disabling the Malwarebite program which is a type of Anti-Virus program and still.

The installation folders are right, but I don't understand what you mean by .dat/.datx. However i opened it and there is no .dat nor .datx files

post 4 above .... servers were having issues .... do not know when that started, how long it lasted, or if you were trying to install the game at the time but guessing you were.

corrupt dat file = client_highres_aux_1.dat client_highres.dat client_sound_aux_1.datx

another possible cause - firewall, antivirus
check the logs - might be blocking steam/servers from downloading/writing to disk

some users have all kinds of issues with the steam lotro installer.
perhaps go to the lotro.com website and download game directly.
same game, same servers.

You can also try to go to the small down arrow in the lotro launcher, select "Options" and click "Repair". It will download the game again, but there dont seem to be any errors then.

Worked for me at least
