How's lotro F2P model at present
Hi, me and one of my friends are planning to try lord of the rings online. But we are returning players, we played lotro when it becamed free to play some years ago. We didn't go far before hitting a paywall, it seemed that we had to pay to continue the main questline and many other quests. We did not have a credit card at that moment so we stoped playing.

So i'm asking, is it as it was back then? Or as it changed?

I sure hope they changed tactics or else we won't be playing for long.

still same. free to level 30. than you can farm quest packs one by one. you can check for efficient tp farming guide on steam and google. technically you can farm unlimited turbine points. just takes some time. but when you know what to do; it takes just a few hours to get 100s tp at one time. do 30 quest at every starter area; do killing deed in starter areas, easy. do exploration deeds. you can get 200 points per day. ered luin is best to start; then shire. if you have beorning class; they have really quick intro. you can jump into action fastest way to farm tp. also if you buy points; limits go higher. but in the end you will want to buy expansions at last. they raise up skirmish ranks etc. but as i said; technically you can farm unlimited tp.

200 Turbine Point available from all Deeds in The Shire -- Level 1-13
180 Turbine Point available from all Deeds in Ered Luin -- Level 1-15
305 Turbine Point available from all Deeds in Bree-land -- Level 1-24
230 Turbine Point available from all Deeds in the Lone-lands -- Level 22-35

not that hard. it takes almost 2 days to level 30s.

also spam skirmishes for marks, or make some gold. you can get reputation items with marks or gold; to be kindred with shire, bree land. every rep level gives a lot of tp. every kindred level gives you 50 tp. and shire + bree land easy to be kindred.

Ok, but is there some way to avoid all this, like a subsciption or a one time fee? I'm not broke, i just don't want to pay 300$ for a game.

It's a hybrid model, so yes there is a subscription which gives you access to a lot more.

How much does it cost monthly and what do i get with a subscription?

Never mind, it's explained clearly on their website.

Also if I'm not mistaken all book/epic quests are free up until HD which is 85 I think?

So you can be f2p and just grind around doing the book/epic quests up until that point.

Im a f2p player but only in the sense that I play the game without paying the monthly subscription fee. All the content in the game is available for purchase through quest packs that provide you with neverending access to those quest givers &/or instances account-wide. There are sales from time to time which provide you with opportunities for more value on this expense. The best value is the Eregion Quest pack which includes vast swaths of the content in game. If you're willing to make that initial investment, then the sooner you make the jump from subscriber then the more value you'll get.

TLDR: Purchase Helms Deep PREMIUM edition during a steam sale, use the Turbine Points to buy in game content at a discount when available if you want all the content at a fraction of the cost.

Just buy all the expansion packs and quest packs when they are on sale direct from turbine lotro store, and buy the TP when there is bonus. Then you don't need to subscribe till level cap. The only reason at level 100 to subscribe is to play in the Moors PVP. As you play through the quest packs, you earn much TP. Yeah i am the same as Gomer ^

Just the Slayer and Explorer Deeds in Bree-land, Shire and Ered Luin will net you ~470 TP for six hours of effort. These Deed Location Maps[toarda.com] can be very useful in optimising your route through these zones.

If you create your first char and run it through these Deeds, you'll come out the other end at Lvl 21 with all that TP and 10 Gold the richer. First time through may take an hour or two longer, but is worth it but you'll get to know the flow of the areas and get quicker at it.

Use the second char slot to create a 'burner' toon to just run these Deeds feeding their earned TP back into your account. Once they complete these zones just delete and repeat. If you can stand running the grind once a week that's a lot of TP to spend!

VIP for US$99 per year only gets you 500 TP per month. Doing the grind gets you nearly this amount per week. While you can argue about the worth of all of the other VIP perks that come in that US$99, you can get all of those with relatively little effort (well, maybe except for the Freep-side of PvMP!). F2P for the win!
