Don't waste your time. There are far, far too many commands for you to be able to play with a controller. It's a MMORPG, after all.

Its a mmorpg true but for combat you actually can map a lot of it. Best bet is copy paste the layout for like ffxiv.

Nope he is pretty on the mark.
Depending on your Class you go beyond what you could map to a single Joypad.

Some less skill overloaded classes like Wardens would work fine with the limited skills.
Yet other Classes you would limit yourself to just a subset of powers.

Have fun playing the game still remember you don't enjoy it in all it's Glory.

I didn't say you couldn't play with a gamepad, I said you shouldn't. Most of my characters need two full rows of hotkeys to function - that's 24 inputs, not to mention the keys to cycle through targets and engage autoattack. If you're holding a controller, you also can't type. But if you'd rather play with a gamepad, knock yourself out...

well I understand about the hot keys and auto engage but as long as you map your hot keys out from using your mouse cursor and set them once to appear at the bottom of your scene then xpadder has no problem using the the mapped cursor like a mouse and you simply click over them to activate. Xpadder WORKS on this game and all the keys for it as long as you know how to set the mapping correctly. Again the people here have showed me how and it was great, and very easy to learn.

Actually I really am not stbborn I just want people like me to know that you can infact enjoy this game offered free from Steam using your controllers. People again with xpadder you can play thise game fully with a controller mapped by xpadder.

Considering you only have around 18 hours logged into this game tells me you don't much about it you will not be able to play this way later on stop wasting your time and take it for what it is. I feel as if you are one of those players who will realize they have to spend money on this game at about level 30ish and will quit plus give it a bad review.

and you just basically wasted your money if youre going to expect to be playing that far on with an xbox controller xD. This isn't skyrim bud.

@Angel Phenix the thing those peps try to explain to you is not that the actual technical task of mapping the Keys does not work.

But that you at a certain point in your Charachter progression just outgrow the possible amount of Button Combinations to map all necessary Skills to your Joypad resulting in a underperforming and degraded playing experience.

As i mention above there is one single Class the Warden that because of it's unique Gameplay would work best with a joypad but still you would endup with way to many skills to map all of those to a Joypad.

If you don't care about performing at your peak then go ahead and play with a joypad it certainly does work from a technical perspective.

Want a tip when using controller with mmo's use 2 programs one with select/back button bound to hold right click and the other for controlls this way you have no cursor on screen inless you push select/back.

I would not recommend using a controller for LotRO, but if someone wants to try it, let them.
Whether they enjoy playing it that way is totally up to them.
I know I wouldn't enjoy it that way, although I can see the merit of using a controller combined with a Steam link unit to play on the big TV downstairs.
LotRO doesn't require twitch-play, so you can think about the strange chords you'll have to set up to map everything you need.

The biggest drawback is the lack of a keyboard to chat. (I hate voice chat)
