Open more than one Lotro-client via steam?
Hello guys!

Is it possible to open more than one client via steam? Don't panic. I don't want to multibox, but after 7 years there is no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mail box in the Ettenmoors on creepside, and I want to share some quest stuff between my alts and my main.

AllowMultipleInstances=true in UserPreferences is active, but steam says the game is still running and can't open twice.

(sorry for bad english - german player)

Greetings from germany!

I believe you need to have the game installed in different directories to be able to have multiple clients open at the same time.
You might be able to copy the directory where the lotroclient.exe is stored to another place & start the game from there for the second instance (not using the Steam link)

No, it cannot be done via Steam because of how Steam works.

Howver, if you launch the game independent of Steam, it can easily be done (supposedly.)
There is a check box in the Launcher to allow it. (and I belive anothe in Options, but I do't know about that one.)

In the Launcher, go to the "down arrow" in the upper right of the Launcher window, on the General tab, check the box "Allow multiple game instances."

And yes, "Multiboxing" is completely "legal" as far as Turbine is concerned. It does not violate any of the various EULAs, Codes of Conduct, or TOS.

There is no problem to install another client directly from Lotro site, although you need to download whole 20 GB once more :), and in such manner you can install game independently from Steam on another location in your PC and run it usung your account in Lotro. I have both clients, but do not try to run more than one instance at once. I will try it today after work lol. What I know already it's not possible to run game simultaneouslu through Steam AND through independent client.

Hey Guys,

thanks for your comments! It works.
I've opened the clients through the steam installation folder. The second one will say that lotro already is running, but as Valamar said:
"In the Launcher, go to the "down arrow" in the upper right of the Launcher window, on the General tab, check the box "Allow multiple game instances."
I couldn't see the check in the box, but it will work anyway after you klick on "ok"...

Many client changes over the desktop, but now i have my mail box :)

Have a got time in Middle Earth!

(again sorry for bad english)

I know the post is kinda old, but I don't get the last reply. You say that you managed to launch both from Steam? I tried and I could, but then it won't let me. Says it's already running, yeah. And yeah, ticked box.

Greetings from germany!

I launch multiple clients via steam all the time.

Edit:
It's actually under the client launcher that pops up after Steam initiates it.

1) Top Right of game launcher there is a drop down arrow.
2) Options
3) General
4) Click the German translation of "Allow mutilple game instances"
Enjoy

Well, thanks for the reply, but as I said in my post, "Allow multiple instances" is ticked.
The problem is that the first time I tried, Steam launched twice no problem. I tried again 2 hours later and I couldn't, "It's already running". And now I tried again some 7 hours later and again no problem...
Guess I have an Steam with a humour...

Sorry I forgot to add that you click, "keep launcher" open and after logon and password the game will launch with the LotRO client still open to logon with other accounts at the same time.

So you use Steam to initiate the LoTRO client launcher and all the rest is client based.

Yep, that one works. Thanks :D
