Have the graphics been updated?

I love LOTR. However, the developers butchered what could have been amazing with the poor graphics quality. I've heard talk of the game being modernized, but I cannot find confirmation only speculation.

The color palette isn't much different from that of the Peter Jackson movies really, besides nobody said that a dull and desaturated color palette is indicative of realism.

Replace the guns with swords and the armor with LOTRO armor and this picture looks like Lone-lands. STALKER was supposed to be realistic and dreary, yet it looks the same as LOTRO.

The Graphics "have" been Updated several times in the past few years. HOWEVER, that hasn't been for the full game. They've been rolling out their Latest & Improving Visual Style for X amount of Content: Fate of Gundabad Expansion, several Low Level Quest Packs and the Before the Shadow Mini-Expansion that came out in Fall 2021.

The whole "Graphics Update" was misreported and rumors people were making that LOTRO was basically going to get an Overhaul to the Graphics and this isn't happening.

A long term goal is to work on Older Content and bring it to a Modern Visual Style that is being used at that time but there is no ETA on when, they WON'T be doing all of LOTRO's Older Content at one time and they have no timetable for when such work will be done (it really will be a never ending process where they touch up Older Content from time to time).

They still have other Updates they want to do such as the Race of Men for Avatars will get Updated, then work on the other Races and so on. So LOTRO's Graphics/Visuals are Improving & being Updated regularly but not to how it's been portrayed by incorrect sources.

Can you vouch for the one who took the LOTRO screenshots that they were playing with maxed out graphics when taking the screenshots?


Texture filtering, resolution, anti-aliasing look like they are worse than Vanilla WoW from 2004. I find it hard to believe LOTRO looked like that. I first played LOTRO in 2010 and I remember it looked better than that.

The only difference between the STALKER screenshot and those from LOTRO is that STALKER had some texture bump mapping that only appeared in LOTRO in 2021.

What images are you comparing it to? LOTRO now? That is kind of ignorant if that is the case. Comparing a game from 2007 to what a game looks like in 2023

LOTRO's graphics were amazing when it first came out, today they are very nice and I still love to just stop and look around. WOW was way to cartoonist for me my son and his friends really enjoy them though. That all being said graphics in either game are no where near what is possible in today's standard.

That doesn't mean anything. Activision is a huge company now and its new games like Overwatch and Diablo 4 look like sh*t. WoW technically looked worse in 2007 compared to LOTRO in 2007, the only difference, as I already said numerous times, is that WoW's cartoony graphics from 2004 aged better than LOTRO's realistic graphics.

No, I'm comparing STALKER 2007 to LOTRO 2007 and they look almost the same. LOTRO did not have such horrible graphics in 2007 like in the screenshots, people just had POS computers that could not run it back then also due to the ancient engine even for 2007.

lets be real here this is a sub par game that sprouts from something truely epic fantasy story.... this game just sucks for what its suppose to represent. Dont expect it to change into something worthy my friend, you will only find a bunch of developer ♥♥♥♥ riding players in here that will defend the game as to not feel bad about all the money they spend on a mediocre game thats not worth its title, period.

I used to talk like this before I played it too, you haven't played the game, at least on Steam so you don't know what you're talking about. So what you said is entirely false BS with no bearing whatsoever since you haven't played the game. But I see you've played Lost Ark, so that explains a lot, I also want to express my condolences, because Lost Ark players aren't very bright. And playing Lost Ark makes anyone's arguments completely invalid because one has to be disabled to play that game willingly.

This game is 16 years old. I would say the graphics are being tweaked. It would be a massive rework to bring them up to 2023 standards so it is very unlikely.

The game is not gonna get a full graphics unreal engine 5 overhaul, so if you expect anything like that it's not gonna happen. Ever.
The one thing they are doing is changing the older areas into the style of the newest released ones, but it's a slow project as I heard so again you shouldn't expect anything.

I just wanna point how good a game as to be ..... so after 16-17 years of his release we STILL discuss about it XD ... i Love lotro world .... i've played it from his early release i am a lifetime suscriber ... never spent better 80-100 bucks ( cant remember exactly) .. Thanks every1 involved .. please keep up the good work
