Legendary servers good for newbie?
I just learned a bit about legendary servers from this article https://www.legendarycasual.com/lotro-server-guide/

I was wondering if Treebeard was actually a good place for me.

I am the type that was actually looking forward to some old-fashioned grind when I came back to LotRO this week, but of course the game is quite old (mature), level cap is 140, nobody is really around in any starting areas, doing any kind of older lower level content, and apparently there have been buffs to leveling as well.

Would Treebeard be a good place for me instead? Sure, I understand that there, too, most players would be at level cap already, but at least I hope that is not as bad a gap as it is for me on Arkenstone.

I also read that the legendary servers don't have the leveling xp buffs, so maybe they will give me that classic feel I am going for.

Are there much players on those servers? Or are they very niche how like for example the whole WoW Classic SOM was a disaster.

Well I think the current level cap on Treebeard is only 75 (Isengard expansion) so you'd be correct that the gap wouldn't be as great as on a normal server.

With a lower xp and no xp buffs you'd be looking at a slower leveling process, but you'd still be looking at fairly empty low level zones since everyone else has a large head start on you.

They are niche as to how much I don't know, but I'd say alot probably see them as a secondary server and once at cap switch back to their normal server to work on the up to 140 grind.

Some high lights that Treebeard has coming up:
- On June 7th, 2023, Riders of Rohan will arrive on Treebeard.
- On December 6th, 2023, Helm's Deep will arrive on Treebeard

**** The legendary servers big draw was a bunch of people all starting off together, thus giving that feeling of crowded zones like when the game originally launched.

Oh okay, so I think the way you are describing it is that it probably had a nice big "hoorah" at the start, then when everyone got bored of the grind or reached level cap they went back to playing on the regular servers and so these ones are probably pretty dead huh.

Totally correct and the bulk of the pop would be in the Last region released so pretty dead in the lower levels.

i've hard those servers have an even lower population so you may find no difference. id stick with your regions most populated server. you might regret making a character and investing too much time on a server that could end up dead in the future

Well now actually I've played some more and I'm starting to realise that the game is also a joke in terms of challenge. I can walktz into a camp of goblins, round up like 10 enemies and then mow them all down without even coming close to being in danger. And people in chat told me to expect this throughout the whole game.

But I think in Legendary service I read that you can increase the difficulty. And also you don't level up as fast. Cuz right now I am already level 17, but still getting quests which are like level 12.

In treebeard specifically, exp gain is slower.
And that mob hoarding would depend on your class and level difference.

It bothers me though that I can't find anyone who is playing on them. When I ask in chat, nobody replies so assume they never played. Some friends I made in game I asked directly and most haven't because it requires VIP to play there. And here on steam so far I am getting kind answers from you folks, but it doesn't sound like you actively play on those servers either. That's pretty sus as the kids these days would say!

I suppose what I ought to do is get a month's premium and give it a try for my own self. I mean since I have to unlock all the content after Bree anyway to even play then I would probably be subbing anyway so why not.

On the other hand I'm kinda at a cross road that if the game is a faceroll all the way to level 140, and nobody plays any content other than end level, and I am not going to be enjoying that content if I'm playing it alone then I'm not really sure hwy play anyway.

Most people play on the main servers yeah. The legendary ones are mainly for people who want to re/experience old endgame times, although it won’t be the same since the classes don’t behave like they did 10 years ago.

You don’t have to sub for content until level 95 though, there’s free content all the way up to that level.

There are an overabundance of quests in the game and if you do them all like most of us do, you will out level an area as you've done.

If you want a challenge you should go to the store and get a Stone of the Tortise which will stop your xp gain while it's equipped so you can stay on level with the quests you're taking.

The Free to Play area is from level's 1 to 95 which is well past Bree. Everything up to Moria is free, Moria expansion is free, as is the Isengard, Rohan and Helm's Deep Expansions, so while getting a 1 month sub to unlock f2p restrictions is a useful thing, it's not needed to unlock content for a while.
