Suggestion - the password shouldn't be very complex, use a relatively small (around 10 characters) with no symbols, just letters and numbers.
I don't know about you but I don't consider entering a 10 character password through an unsecured web page, for an account that is potentially connected to my credit card, is a particularly good idea.
Not that a password with 10 letters and numbers is super easy to crack anyway. Account credentials aren't really cracked, that info is mosy usually gotten via indirect means (phishing, keyloggers, data leaks).
Idk how this game hasn't died years ago with basic issues like this.
Couldn't remember login details so reset password.
Said basically "details incorrect, password is case sensitive"
So i retried resetting password multiple times, each time it said the same thing, regardless if i did it 100% accurate.
Amazed how bad a login system could be.
Yeah well, your suggestion just isn't logical in any way. The password reset page even SAYS to use special characters. It literally SAYS it. So not using special characters is not only counter-intuitive, its just a terrible setup because it recommends something that isn't supported.
Now imagine how many potential new players they have attracted, who failed to make an account for an issue like this (many passwords require special characters as standard these days), and just gave up and moved on.
No wonder game is on life support.
So while you might want to try and white knight your favourite F2P game, there is no excuse for a really bad system here, sorry.
My suggestion stands, to you inclusive, try setting a simpler password in the reset page.
Well, now I have three accounts, two of which I can't even delete, and I certainly won't bother contacting support. This is ridiculous beyond words.
And from reading former posts, this issue isn't even new, but has existed in one form or another for *years*.
I had the same (well similar) as others here - emails not working, passwords not working - but it didn't even tell me what was wrong (You'd hit 'submit' and the page would accept it but trying to log on wouldn't work).. After loads of trial and error my account is now linked to my work email with a poxy password I wouldn't have used 20 years ago.
Seriously!!! The game is actually quite good, but it feels like a load of disparate systems held together with sticky tape and glue. The in game 'LOTRO' store loads my friggen browser to order for VIP or get the latest expansions - I wouldn't mind that given the age of the game but as others have stated nothing I've seen so far inspires much confidence which is really a shame.
Once again the game is enjoyable but the systems linking everything together are beyond a joke. Security issues aside, I'm concerned that if I did hand over credit card details I might have not followed step x after needing to do y back in the beginning and the expansion gets put to some 'existing' account (that doesn't exist). It's probably not the case but I can't be bothered testing it after my initial experiences.
Edit to add: so I'll just keep playing the free game instead. Lord knows how much potential income they are losing because of things like the above.
And you haven't even experienced the massive amount of ingame problems; all day lag, floaty movement, camera whiplash, doesn't save mouse position, mild p2w, bad ui design, bad ui scaling above 720p.
This game has been on life support for 15 years, and instead of fixing the issues they just release more content to appease the existing fanbase. I guess if you HAVE to choose between keeping existing players or getting new ones I can see why they would choose the former.
Maybe the above and other issues are resolved, perhaps. Maybe not, but personally I had no such problems a couple of days ago resetting and creating a new password (including special characters) as I'd forgotten my old one.
What I'm curious about is; does anyone else logging in via Steam have to put their account name in, accept high-res textures, and accept the various user agreements everytime before they play the game too? I know this wasn't the case in the past, perhaps it's just a steam issue, not a huge issue, but just curious.
