If you had checked before the release of the latest expansion you'd also have snagged a code for every non expansion quest pack which, couple with the ongoing expansions giveaway, would mean you have every piece of content available except for newest expansion and the new 2 low level regions.
You lose access to the server while not vip.
I would prefer to level without them... play through the story. Then maybe use one on a new char.. dunno.
So the char just gets server locked not automatically transfered? Why i'm asking is much more about if i don't have time to play the game i'm not gonna pay them for a month extra. So it's not gonna be an auto transfer then when i buy sub again i have to pay for transfer too.
In the meantime you either don't play LOTRO, or make an alt in a regular server.
What legendary server is appealing to you?
You have one with higher exp gains (Shadowfax)
One with slower exp gains (Treebeard)
And one with normal exp gain.
All of them started with the original release content, and are progressively unlocking the already existing content in the order it was released. Anor, the normal one, is the furthest one ahead since it's been open for a while now.
So:
Starting in Anor is basically no different than playing in a normal server because it's quite ahead in the endgame content compared to the other two and before you got there it'd probably be up to date.
That leaves Shadowfax and Treebeard as relevant choices, in case you want a quicker or slower progression and to be closer to the max level players compared to the normal servers.
The grinding of content for gear (like instances or raids) isn't changed as far as I'm aware.
