RAM memory increasing???
i dont understand why the RAM memory never stops to get higher while i play LOTRO. i tought it was DX 11 so i tried dx 9 but still increasing. it never stops and i have to restart comp to reset the ram memory.
iv searched on google and i cant talk in game cus i havent "played long enough" even tho im level 12 and have played like 1,5 day straight now.

the things i find via google only talks about this game being very bad optimized etc. but nothing to resolve the increasing ram usage from this game?

can someone help or make sense to this?

edit- my specs:

CPU intel i5 760 2.8 ghz (have done some overclocking tho to like 3,6 or something)
GPU: Nvidia geforce 960 gtx strix 4gb
RAM: DDR3 16 gb (think the speed is 1600 cus i have a 7 year old MB)

The game is 32bit, so it can't allocate more than 3.5GB of memory.
DX9, 10, or 11 shouldn't affect your RAM usage, and with a 4GB video card, you shouldn't have issues with hires textures needing to swap.

You could try opening the task manager to check which program is hogging your memory.
On the other hand, memory that's not being actively used is a waste. IIRC, Windows will use 'spare' memory as a cache (which will be released when needed by other processes).
Only if your machine grinds to a halt after quitting LotRO I would start worrying.

I have a 6 yr old pc. 750ti with 387.92 driver. running dx11. most graphics settings on high. playing a 5 yr old toon in mordor. uses around 1.5gb memory when game starts. been between 1.5 and 2.0 for last 30 min. windows says there are 170 processes running. last time it ran out memory (Error Code 0xc0000017) was Sep 28 according to the win 10 reliability history.

happens with all toons or just one? might have a toon with some kind of logic problem.
delete the UserPreferences.ini file in folder Document\The Lord of the Rings Online then start the game. maybe a setting is corrupt/wrong.
uninstall the graphics driver. do a clean install of the latest driver.

the world chat problem is because of the gold sellers/spammers/bots.

i have been following task manager while i play and LOTRO never uses more than 1,5 gb ram. but the ram still goes up while i play and it must be something hiding with this game that drains all my ram. but i cant find any program in task manager using so much ram memory.

as for the gpu i have the latest driver. and im playing on one toon only since im a new player. tho i tried this game back in 2012 but i cant use that toon bcus i need to pay for transfer since the server he was on is now gone.

" but i cant use that toon bcus i need to pay for transfer since the server he was on is now gone. "

click the transfer button in the game launcher. free transfer from closed servers.

yeah i forgot to mention another thing regarding that.

i can only transfer to "bullroarer" and "Palantir" since those are listed as "free" for me. the others like brandywine, crickhollow, gladden and landroval are all listed with 2495 LOTRO points.

You are allowed to transfer all your characters off any Closed server for Free. Maybe you have to pick open EU servers if your character was on a closed EU server.
If not you need to discuss that with LOTRO customer service. Throw that 3rd link at their faces.

Data Center Update and Free Transfer Period Announcement
While we are still working through some kinks in upgrading from 32-bit to 64bit Operating Systems for our new hardware, we have come to the last of the list of opening closing worlds for transfer. On Dec 14th Snowbourn will be opened for transfer.
All closing worlds will then be available for transfer.

We will also be offering Free transfers between remaining worlds following the below schedule.
• Dec 7th- Jan 3rd: Arkenstone & Gwaihir
• Jan 4th- 10th: Landroval & Belegaer
• Jan 11th- 17th: Crickhollow & Sirannon
• Jan 18th- Jan 24th: Gladden & Laurelin
• Jan 25th- Feb 29th: Brandywine & Evernight
• March 1st- 31st: Arkenstone & Gwaihir
• April 1st - May 1st: Landroval & Belegaer
• May 2nd- May 31st: Crickhollow & Sirannon
• June 1st- 30th: Gladden & Laurelin

Please note that transfers off of closing worlds will remain free permanently regardless of schedule.
All Closing worlds will no longer be available for play on April 4th 2016. Characters will remain available for transfer to an open world.

Once again we are grateful for your patience throughout this process that took longer than any of us expected, but we are very excited about this upgrade and the boosted activity on the top ten worlds and we hope you are as well!

Thank you,

What operating system are you using? Are you running other programs while you are playing LOTRO in the background like webbrowsers, word processors, etc?

And you would not get any good answers to questions like this on LOTRO world chat.

What are the bad symptoms that are you seeing that shows your RAM memory usage increasing exponientially while playing LOTRO? Yes, LOTRO will take up some more RAM memory longer you play, but you have 16 gigabyte of RAM. Does LOTRO crash? Does your computer crash? Does the OS throw up memory full errors?

If you are using a Windows OS, Try using Resource Monitor, Performance Monitor and Event Viewer to get a better view of what is going on.

thnx for all your replies. I solved the problem tho :)

i did some more digging and i found something on the lotro forums about xbox controller causing issues with lotro for some reason.

i plugged out my controller. (also had a external hardrive plugged so could actually be that and not the controller)

either way, this made the RAM memory stabalize and now i have no complaints.except maybe i should look more into my lost character. but i have lvled passed him already so not so important.

funny how a xbox controller couöd be causing something like this lol..

Interesting... I hadn't heard that issue before.
Glad you managed to figure it out though.

Good luck and have fun :-)
