cannot login

Hello community :)

im trying to get back into LOTRO, but i cant login to my account.

i changed the password succesfully about 20 times now. But everytime i try to login with the new password i get an error message. It was possible to login with a friends account, and a reinstall did not help to fix the problem.

I contacted the support, but you know how long it takes them to answer. Anyone has another idea maybe?

Others have had success with a simpler password.

i tried simple passwords.
Only 8 chars, 1 uppercase and one . or ! at the end. Nothing seems to work.

Hey I returned to Lotro myself a week ago, and also had to recover my password.

I think I ran into the same problem as you, I tried several times recovering my password, but none of them seem to work. Until I dropped all the weird characters, like: )(*&^%$#@ . Once I only used letters and numbers it worked. Not sure which character didn't allow me to login, or it was the problem at all, but thought I'd give you this as a possibility.

The problem is the site tells me i need )(*&^%$#@! :( Cant create a new password without at least one special thingy

I got a password with an uppercase letter, a lowercase, and a number. There shouldn't be a need for any other. Perhaps there's also a need for 8 characters total?

Mine is 8 characters lowercase letters and numbers, but it's 10 years old so the password requirements probably changed meanwhile, might not be possible to get a similar password.

**Posted this on a recent post regarding the problem.
If this is the problem for you, it may fix it. If not then it obviously won't.

If this is on the main website itself then there is some bug that shows up like that.
I had to use the actual old Standing Stone Games website to create an account and log into my LOTR account from there instead of the website they use for LOTRO.

It's quite silly. Try using this. Found this method from a reddit post pertaining to the problem many people had regarding their new LOTRO website they haven't bothered to fix for logging in etc.

And log into your old accounts or new accounts.
Hopefully that works and solves some of your problems.
A lot of people are getting the same problem and mine was solved using this method.

I can't login either, and tried to change my password, both with and without symbols. Doesn't work logging in in the game or on that site. I've mailed support but so far no reply. Anyone else got any ideas? :/

I had the same problem. Just make ticket and support will solve it in the next 4 to 6 days. (Something about suspicious account activity in the past...)

I think there is some problem with the servers that check the credentials or something like that. I am having this same problem but in DDO, maybe they are trying to fix the gold seller exploit that accesses the game chat without being logged in and is affecting the operation of these checks. But I don't really know what it is...

I confirm. Passwords with special symbols didn't work so I generate 17x symbol simpler password and It worked for me.

Hopefully they can merge my char to old account when they response in a year or two.

Ya my account was locked out after 4 years. Just need to contact customer support. The real issue is gonna be recovering characters on long dead servers.
