Extra Life 2020, Team Standing Stone Games, and You!
Once again Standing Stone Games,players from throughout the LOTRO community, and associated friends and family are raising money for Extra Life! Our fundraising through Team Standing Stone Games will help the local Boston Children's Hospital, which provides life-saving treatment and care to children from all over the world.
We hope to raise $20,000 for the Boston Children's Hospital this year, and we're combining forces! Team Standing Stone Games includes both Dungeons & Dragons Online and The Lord of the Rings Online players, developers, and friends. Last year we were the top fundraiser for the Boston Children's Hospital, and we'd love to do that again! Standing Stone Games will be donating an initial $5,000 to kick off our fundraising drive, and we hope you will consider supporting our team as well.

Greetings! I'm writing today to get you up to speed on our current plans for the rest of the year and tease a few things we hope you look forward to. The Lord of the Rings Online celebrates its 14th Anniversary this year, and that is thanks to you logging in and playing.
Our first big update of 2021 will happen in March when we release The Wildwood of Bree-land to the game. Wildwood will see the release of the long-teased wilderness between Bree-land and Evendim. The Wildwood is being eyed by two factions aiming to use the land for their own purposes, but their (and your) enemies have other plans in mind.... This will be the first time we can think of where we are releasing below-level-cap region content in addition to level cap content, so even players who are not at level cap can enjoy this new experience.
We're also looking forward to the Spring Festival in March! This year we'll be adding a new Festivity to the event featuring a guest appearance by Grimbeorn himself. There will also be the new 6-player Boss from the Vaults: Naruhel the Red Maid. Expect to see some great seasonally-themed cosmetics and other rewards.
A short time after the Wildwood update, we are planning to release the first of our 'Further Adventures,' quest arcs that make use of the Mission system to explore new stories involving major and minor characters in Middle-earth. The first of these involves one of the most famous of all the Hobbits: Bilbo Baggins. If you enjoy it, we're open to doing more 'Further Adventures' later in the year. Suggestions for characters you'd like to see in these narrative mission sets are welcome!
This summer brings Update 30: The Blood of Azog to The Lord of the Rings Online! As War of Three Peaks presses on, Durin Stonehelmson prepares to lead the Gabil'akkâ beyond the frozen gates of Mount Gundabad. At the urging of Glóin, Prince Durin sends word to the Lonely Mountain to muster even more Dwarves to Elderslade before the reclamation begins. As you aid in this effort, you'll discover the tale of Hermáth Stormhammer, a hero of the Battle of Azanulbizar. You'll experience important moments in the history of Durin's Folk firsthand, such as the taking of the Oakenshield, the death of Azog, the ever-present danger of Durin's Bane, and more! Update 30 will feature a new Interlude, new Quests, new Missions, and a new Raid in a Quest Pack that is free to VIPs!
The fall sees Durin's plans unfold as we release our next full expansion in Update 31: Gundabad! Expect to hear a lot more in the coming months, but we're keeping most of it under wraps for now. Gundabad concludes our story of The Legacy of Durin and the Trials of the Dwarves as well!
This will also be a big year for our Legendary Worlds of Anor and Ithil! We're planning to bring The Wastes to the Legendary servers in April before debuting Mordor itself in August. Depending on what ends up happening we could bring the Grey Mountains to the Legendary Worlds late in the year.
On the PvMP side I am happy to let you know that we currently have a designer who has regular time set aside for ongoing development work, and we want to address many of your concerns about PvMP balance and more.
For Legendary Items, our focus this year will be to speed up LI leveling for players not at end-game and make our newer regions more appealing for people working on their items.

FAQ
When will the gifts be granted?
The gifts will be granted to your account when you log into the game for the first time after 10:00 AM Eastern (-4 GMT) on Monday, April 21st, 2021. The gifts will be delivered to any character who logs into the game through March 31st, 2022.
Can I upgrade to premium or VIP to become eligible for gifts?
Absolutely! There's still plenty of time to upgrade. Click here to learn more about the benefits of becoming a VIP.
I have multiple LOTRO accounts on my master account. What happens to me?
Each individual eligible account will have the appropriate gifts applied to it.
I have an old account but I haven't been playing on it. Will I still receive gifts?
All eligible Premium and VIP accounts will receive anniversary gifts, advancing by one year even if the accounts have been inactive, as long as you login during the Anniversary period (4/21/2021 - 3/31/2022). You will receive the gift that corresponds to the year after the last gift you received, so if you received a 13th Anniversary Gift last year you will get a 14th Anniversary Gift this year.
Do I have to log in to the game during the Anniversary period to receive my gifts?
Yes. You will receive your gifts upon login as long as it is within the Anniversary period.
How do I receive my gifts?
Your gifts will appear automatically in your inventory upon login, provided there is enough open space available. If you do not have enough space, the remaining gifts will appear upon the next login when enough space is open. Portrait frames will be automatically applied to your characters upon receipt if they are Year 8 and prior; Year 9 and after require opening the gift item, which puts the Portrait Frame into your inventory.
*Account Status refers to the billing state of the account as of 10:00 AM EST on April 21st, 2021. An account may reflect a billing state of VIP, Premium, Free Player or Suspended Account Status. Rewards will be distributed based on the gift players received the previous year at the time of account review at 10:00 AM EST on April 21st, 2021. Account must be in good standing to receive rewards. Rewards have no cash value. You may see all of the individual Subscriptions on a single master Account by logging into https://myaccount.standingstonegames.com/. The Legendary World of Ithil will be closing to public log-in after June 15th, 2021, with the world formally becoming unavailable after our regular 8:00 AM Eastern (-4 GMT) weekly restart on the 16th. Through the end of the year free character and shared item transfers will remain available from Ithil to any other game world, including our remaining Legendary World of Anor. After December 31st, 2021, the Ithil game world will be closed permanently, and any remaining characters will not be able to be transferred or accessed. Kinship leaders should log in to abandon or sell their kinship houses before June 16th to allow for successful character transfer. Mail does not transfer, so please login all characters before June 16th to detach any mail attachments. Thank you!
FAQ:
How can I preserve my existing characters currently on Ithil?
Players can transfer their characters and items from Ithil to any other game world for free using the Transfer button available after logging into the game launcher with your user name and password.
Will Ithil eventually have its character and account data deleted?
Yes. Players have through December 31st, 2021 to transfer their characters and shared items from Ithil. After that time characters and items will no longer be transferrable, and Customer Support will not be able to assist players in recovering those characters or items.
Why is Ithil being closed?
Ithil was initially opened in response to a large number of players logging into Anor during the launch of our Legendary Worlds, and while it has been home to many players since then, its population has always been among the lowest of our game worlds. Anor will remain home to our existing Legendary World experience while we bring out new server events and options in the future.
Can I transfer to a U.S/European game world?
Yes. Characters created on Ithil do not face the same historical technical restrictions between U.S. and European game worlds that our other servers do, so characters can transfer to any server they wish.
Do I need to abandon my kinship home as a guild leader in order to transfer away from Ithil?
Yes. Kinship leaders should login to abandon or sell their kinship houses before June 16th to allow for successful character transfer.
Do I need to delete my unread mail in order to transfer away from Ithil?
Mail does not transfer, so please login all characters before June 16th to detach any mail attachments. While you can transfer with unread mail, anything in your mail system will not carry with you over to your new game world.

Introducing: Shadowfax and Treebeard!
The Legendary World experience now has two new servers, Shadowfax and Treebeard, that will take you through the journey faster or slower, more or less difficult - your choice!
Speed through Middle-earth on the Shadowfax server:
Get +50% XP, Legendary Item XP, and Mount XP along with +20% Virtue XP!
Unlocks more quickly than normal, about every two months.
Enjoy every moment of LOTRO on the Treebeard server:
Get only 40% of the XP you would normally receive (-60% reduced XP).
Unlocks less frequently than normal, about every five to six months.
Shadowfax and Treebeard also debut a new Landscape Difficulty option! Currently, this option is only available on Shadowfax and Treebeard. Speak with Berthadan near the Prancing Pony in West Bree to get started!
You can set the landscape difficulty between Normal and Deadly +6, which increases the challenge of enemies you'll face on the landscape. The difficulty can be changed again at any time by speaking again with Berthadan. However, if you begin a higher level difficulty prior to reaching level 11 and stick with a high level difficulty you will get rewarded for reaching levels 50 and 130! Four titles are available per class; two for reaching Hard and above difficulty at level 50 and level 130, and two for reaching Deadly and above difficulty at level 50 and level 130. You MUST activate your desired difficulty prior to reaching level 11, and maintain that difficulty or higher until you earn your title. NOTE: Once you select a higher difficulty, you cannot lower that difficulty and retain the Deed, even if under level 11. The Deed can be found in-game to track your progress.
Additional dangers face you at all Deadly difficulties in the form of "Eye of Sauron" effects. Once the Eye of Sauron is upon you, your progress will be hintered by several random effects for the next minute or so. Players will get an XP and Virtue XP boost for running on higher difficulties, starting at +10% XP up to +20% XP and +1% up to +5% Virtue XP.
Legendary Worlds are available to any VIP from the game launcher.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Legendary server and a standard server?
On standard servers, players can reach the maximum level cap with no restrictions, and players adventure in the story beyond the destruction of the One Ring.
The Legendary servers start with only initial Level 50 and below content, with a focus on the Shadows of Angmar story. The level cap and story content unlocks over time, allowing players to enjoy the early story of The Lord of the Rings Online anew, together!
Do I need a subscription to play on the Legendary server?
The Legendary servers are available to VIP subscribers along with Lifetime VIP subscribers.
Can we transfer characters off or on to this server?
Players cannot transfer characters onto Legendary Worlds. Currently, players can transfer characters from Anor to other game worlds through a paid World Character Transfer. It is not currently possible to transfer characters from Shadowfax and Treebeard to the other game worlds, nor transfer characters between Shadowfax and Treebeard.
Can I access the LOTRO Store on the Legendary server?
Yes, but some items may not be available until the Legendary server advances further in the Story / Level cap.
Are there Trait trees?
Yes.
Can I play a Rune-keeper, Warden, or Beorning?
Yes.
Can I play a High-elf or Stout-axe?
Yes.
Will I get anniversary gifts when I make a new character?
Yes, you will still get your anniversary gifts. However, some level restricted pre-order items aren't available until the Legendary world advances far enough in the story to unlock them.
Can I keep playing on my non-Legendary server as well?
Yes, the Legendary server experience does not impact your ability to play on other worlds.
Will Standing Stone Games continue to develop the non-Legendary worlds?
Yes! We have no intention of adjusting our frequent, regular, and active development of the non-Legendary game worlds, and have plans for them well into the future.
Can I transfer my Shared Account items from a Legendary server to a non-Legendary server?
Players can currently send Shared Account items from Anor to a non-Legendary game world through a paid World Transfer. Players CANNOT currently transfer characters from Shadowfax and Treebeard to other game worlds. Players also cannot transfer characters between Shadowfax and Treebeard. The same restrictions apply to shared account items.
Is there PvMP on the Legendary server?
There is currently no PvMP available at this time.
If I purchase an account-based service or item from the LOTRO Store on the Legendary server, does it apply to the non-Legendary servers as well?
Yes. Additionally, previously-purchased account-based items are available on both worlds.
Do I need to download a different game client to play on the Legendary server?
No. The Legendary servers are available from the Select Game World menu when logging in through the regular LOTRO client.
Can I access all of the LOTRO world and content on the Legendary server?
Eventually yes. The Legendary servers gradually unlock content and stories over time.
Will legendary weapons be available on the Legendary server?
Legendary weapons become available when the Legendary server unlocks the Mines of Moria story.
Can I play instances and skirmishes on the Legendary server?
Any skirmishes or instances that are above the current level cap of the Legendary server are not accessible until the level cap increases.
Is there a separate European Legendary server?
No. Players from all territories can play together on the Legendary server, and German and French speaking players can play on Legendary using the localized game clients.
Does the Legendary server have festivals and anniversary events like the other worlds?
Yes, most festivals are available for all worlds, including Legendary. A very limited amount of events might occur in a region that the Legendary world has not yet advanced to, but would become accessible once the Story / Level cap advances into those areas.
Can I use character boosts on the Legendary server?
While the use of Experience potions and items is permitted, players are not able to use or purchase character level boosts (example: Gift of the Valar) on the Legendary world until the Story and level cap has advanced far enough. It is not possible to use a character boost to reach a level or content higher than the Legendary server currently has unlocked.
If I previously purchased Expansions or Quest Packs, will I be able to access them on Legendary once the server progresses to them?
Yes, any previously purchased Expansions and Quest Packs will be honored and allow you access on Legendary once the server reaches that point in the Story.
Is the Legendary server a “Classic” or “Vanilla” server?
By most descriptions, a “Classic” server is an attempt to recreate LOTRO exactly as it was at launch, using only assets and content that was available in 2007.
A Legendary server runs alongside existing servers, and therefore contains many of the changes that have been made to the game over the years, such as UI improvements, bug fixes, changes to game systems, etc. In cases where we have updated or changed the layout of regions, the Legendary server uses the updated version of the regions. In cases where we have changed items or player abilities, the Legendary server uses those updated abilities. Some content or gameplay that isn’t appropriate to the Legendary server’s current level cap may be restricted, until that portion of the story unlocks with level cap increases (one does not simply walk into Mordor on Legendary until the time comes).
