An update error has occurred / Failed to load patchclient
Hi, i ran into an update error, i searched around for a fix but nothing i found worked. I tried to make a rule for the game in my firewall and even closed my Anti-Virus to try to do the update, i also tried to look at the event log but i can't understand anything in it so yeah... Doesn't help much. So i'm trying here to see if someone can help and if not i'll just have to give up on it unfortunately. I'm a fan of LOTR, i tried this game on another computer years ago but quit because i started to find quests i couldn't do because i had to buy the pack for it. (I'm a cheap dude.) Now that they give quest packs for free i tried to come back but impossible to get the patch to work. Maybe i'm missing some files i should install first ?

Here's a screen i took : https://imgur.com/5fA32xP

I could try to post my log if someone needs it, lemme know.

Thanks for the help :)

- If your game client not running on Windows 10, try: Loading C++ 2005 and .Net Framework 1.1. Right click the LOTRO game link in your Steam game list, pick Manage from list, then pick Browse Local Files, this brings up the Window explorer for LOTRO. Look in the LOTRO directory for the 3rdParty folder, look inside that folder and run all the .exes you find there while the game launcher Not running and under Admin rights account.

- If your LOTRO game client loaded from Steam is not running, try downloading the game loader from LOTRO website. Then uninstall completely the Steam version, delete leftover files / folders and then reinstall fresh using the game loader from the LOTRO website.

- Make sure you are running the game as Administrator or account with administrator rights.

- Use the troubleshooting compatibility options in Windows OS.

- LOTRO uses Akamai Content Delivery Network still so that could be a problem that you need to allow Akamai to work. Even Updating the launcher calls to Akamai.

Thank you for your help, i decided to try the non-steam version and it works fine. So i just uninstalled the steam version, too much hassle. I've been trying to figure it out for the past 5 hours. Easier to get it directly from Lotro.com

Hey man, this post is a few months old, but I wanted to tell you that I had the same problem, and your post solved my issue. Thank you for taking the time to write it out! It was the first one for me, the PC was running windows 7 and after I installed the libraries manually it worked fine. Have an amazing day!
