Vip to free to play

What happens if i pay for vip lets say 3 months and then return to free? will i lose those inventory space? if i was in a zone i didnt buy yet will my character be locked? i wanna know what happens for everything.

You don't lose any inventory space, or trait slots, you don't get locked out anywhere, you just can't accept any new quests in areas you don't have.

You won't drop down to free to play either as you will have spent real money in the game so you'll be Premium status, not as good as VIP, but better than F2p.

Any character to make and play out of the intro will be considered Premium after your sub stops; so gold cap unlock, fast travel, traits & inventory slots. Also you'll have more unlocked character slots than a F2p has.

You'll probably find all your characters locked when the sub stops and a pop up note telling you to unlock X (3? 5?) characters to keep playing, with the others staying locked (you can make a bunch of characters while VIP so how many it all works out to is up to you).

As to questing; you'll be able to finish any quests and deeds you've started, just not take any new one's in area's you don't own. (The same thing is going to happen to all once this free period ends May 31st).

If you google LotRO account types you'll see what the differences will be.

When it happened to me about the only major change I saw was losing the 'mail anywhere' feature, which was pretty sweet.

I'm not sure if you keep ALL the trait slots unlocked or only the ones you've reached the level for though.

I can only go with my characters and all of their's are unlocked. I know my main character was from pre-f2p, but I made my alts mid-summer last year when I had a 3 month sub going.

Racial Traits show 3 open with the last 2 having a lvl requirement' on them but nothing with a 'lock' symbol, and all the traits are open on the next tab.

However many character slots you have, you lose two when the account downgrades. So a VIP account has 5 as standard. If you make 5 characters, you’ll have to choose 2 to lock when the sub stops. If you only make 3, all will be available. If you buy 2 extra character slots from the store and make 7 characters, you’ll have 5 available after downgrade, etc.

You do keep all trait slots unlocked after VIP, on any character made during the sub. New ones created after the sub stops don’t have this unlocked.

You do however keep all the extra bag space and have no gold limit on any new character, even if that character was not created while VIP.

so i better pay for at least a month to remove some restriction and fall back to premium wich is better than free to play and save more turbine points.

Exactly. After that month you will keep many unlocked features and save many turbine points.

I stand corrected :) I was thinking the 7 included the extra 2 slots you get with Moria. I’ve added a good few character slots since I started as I’m a bit of an altoholic :)

If you are able to, it’s generally recommended. Be sure to make and play at least once all the characters you think you are likely to want during that month, as any made after VIP won’t have all the unlocks.

We don’t yet know what will happen at the end of this current free period. Cordovan (community manager) dropped a tiny hint in his live stream, saying how it had been a “clear success” for the company and the players, but imagine whatever they choose to do won’t invalidate the VIP sub.
