UI is unreadable at 4k.
I want to get back into LotRO. I used to love the game. However, I recently upgraded to a 4k capable rig and monitor. When I try to play this game in 4k the UI is so small it is basically unreadable. I dug around in the UI options ingame and was able to resize some of the stuff like hotbars and chat and other things. However the main windows like Character, Skills, etc cannot be made larger and this basically makes the game unplayable for me.

Yes, I could play at a lower resolution. However, I play in borderless window. Also even if I switched to fullscreen, Windows doesn't like it when you run fullscreen stuff at lower than 4k on a 4k monitor. When you exit the program usually your desktop icons and possibly other stuff gets messed up. So it isn't worth the hassle even for a game as awesome as LotRO. I doubt any devs read this but if you do please make the game 4k friendly.

2007 game so 10 years old now + this has been an on going request for 4 years now....if they have not done it yet more than likely wont be since a bigger # of players back then were making noise about it cause they jumped on the hype train as soon as it pulled in the station.

Yes, after so many years, Windows still can't handle icon layout when changing resolution.
There are tools that will snapshot/restore icon layout on various resolutions.

As for LotRO: The quest texts etc. are not scalable. This is a limitation of the game engine, and apparently impossible (either technical or financial) to change.
The only solution is to reduce your resolution for the game, or buy a loupe...

@OP im with you man. I 've been doing 4k gaming for about a year now an it does suck to go back to old games and have the issues you talked about occur. I just tried to jump back into LOTRO but UI too small...yes I know I can lower my Res, but like you said the icons, layouts etc get all jacked up, on top of that I run dual monitors so its a pain going back and forth between the two when one is running at a lower res.
In any case I feel your pain lol...there are only a few of us out here but we know what the issues are;) I was hoping there was a mod or a fix but I suppose there wont ever be.

I recently went back and gave Rift another go. That is a prime example of a game that takes full advantage of 4k screens. Each piece of the UI can be scaled individualy and moved arond where you want it. The gameplay gets a bit grindy in the last 10 levels but I'm still having a lot of fun. Here's hoping more games allow full UI scaling and customization!
Hi ! we have the same problem, would like to get a way to enlarge the menue and gui and questtext . changed our monitor setup to ASUS 28 " playing at 3840x2160p . looks not bad, but that menue and questtext and so on is unreadable :/ if any patch or any other way planned, let us know here thanks a lot !

I believe they added some text scaling to quest windows (check the "aA" icon with arrows somewhere at the bottom of the window)

But it's still an old game, that was never designed to be played at 4K res.

I wish we had a way to make 4k playable, but 1440p is very playable for me!

Yes, I've also been at 2560x1440 for a while. I started with 1920x1200 way back when (or maybe 1680x1050 for a bit, too). 4K just isn't feasible despite the performance being fine (for me at least). But 2560x1440 works alright.

I am not a purist even if the monitor can do better--there's no real reason to run everything at 4K if there is no benefit (or so I believe), and the game (or my video card) scales to fit a non-native resolution really well from my experiences with the game.

The UI is too small for me at 4K or even at 1440p so I went back to 1080p.

Has anything been done about this yet?
Playing at 4K is just not possible with the tiny UI, and adjusting the UI size just messes it up even more :(

There has not been any Updates for Resolution, UI and so on especially with how they look at 4K.

It sounds like there will be "some" work but When and how much they'll do is not concrete but it doesn't sound like a Revamp or Overhaul.

Using addons like JRA can help with the text issues I'm quite sure it adds a "scale quest text with mouse wheel" feature

I really hope you are right, but I'll believe it when I see it. If the talk is true I'll be the absolute first one in line to play the day it comes out. I miss this game a LOT.

Careful now, these types of threads are doomed to trigger and attract the "nothing wrong with the game, bye" types of whales and no lifers
