Personally I'd rather have the Dev's working on the game, than telling me they're working on the game. The lack of Dev diaries in no way shape or form let's one know about the games status. The releasing of new content on the other hand does,

As well, the Legendary servers are just about to unlock the 1st expansion; Mines of Moria. With many more expansions to come which would require at least 2 more years to release, I'm optimistic the game will be around for at least that long.
Vales of Anduin is the next region - it should come out within several months - likely 1-2

The producers letter confirmed Anduin as well as a full Minas Morgul expansion pack. This week the stream confirmed the 64 bit client will be beta tested within ~three weeks.
Great game, it's not dying. Not for a few more years at least.
