Also the Lotro Wiki has a very good listing of all the Epic Quests which will show you how / where to pick up from where you left off.
One of the nice things about the Epic Quest line is you can jump into it at multiple spots, Moria is one of them. When you get to the last spot outside the Moria instance you'll pick up the quest to get in and can then pick up the Moria part of the Epic.
If I understand the last part of your post; I generally do all the quests and then go back and do the Epic Quests. Granted doing everything in Moria all together is nice but it got tirering to me and I stopped on the Epic part about half way through as it wasn't moving as fast as the other quests and I just wanted it get done with the place. I'll now be going back to Moria early next year to pick up the Epic where I left it and play it forward to where I had jumped forward on the Epic party in Loth (the rest of Vol II I think).
