do i need a subscription for lotro, it won't let me log into it. it says subscription not found.

No, you don't. This error message occurs when you are trying to log in with a username that has never had a LOTRO account on it. Seems you need to contact SSG Customer support, and they ahould fix this for you.

Games Free to play .... mostly : D. You're not trying to log in with your Steam account are you? If so, you need a seperate LotRO account.

Make a NEW account for LOTRO. Don't bother trying to use old turbine account. If you insist on using old turbine account, you have to get Standing Stones games CC to email you a product key code that you add to your old turbine account. If you have played LOTRO in the past on that old turbine account then you need to contact SSG CC anyway to get it fixed.

Let's see; they're 2 different games? Would you try to log into WoW with your BDO creditials?

I think something like; Unlike some companies, we require seperate accounts for our games.

This would be relevant for people who originally had a Turbine account for DDO but had not previously played LOTRO.

LOTRO and DDO are made by the same people so you should be able to use the account from one to login to the other. I can login to LOTRO using the my DDO account, and Champions Online, Star Trek Online and Neverwinter are all made by Cryptic and I can login to them using the one account.

I don't know when you started playing, but when I did, the first thing that came up before D/L either game was 'Must Create an Account'.

I've been playing both games since they were released in Europe (technically before release, since I took part in the betas) and for Turbine's/SSG's websites when you loaded them they presented you with a sign-up page which had a link in the top right corner to go to the main site for the game which allows you to download the game without having to create an account. But that's irrelevant to what I was saying. You said:

I was pointing out that those are made by two different companies so obviously you won't be able to login to one with the account of the other, whereas games by the same company should allow you to use the same account to login to all of their games.

I'd rather have a different password for each game, if one gets hacked, I don't lose the rest as well.
